NEW but LAST **UPDATE** on New Bartlein "Hard Steel" barrel.

Is there any facts out yet on barrel life? Real world numbers from customers/any of you here when it comes to barrel burning chamberings?
Yes we have numbers per say....for examples guys running like a 6 Dasher or a 6BRA in PRS where they we’re pulling the barrels at 1800 to 2000 rounds have been getting upper 3000’s to 4000 rounds out of the barrels.

One of the very first barrels we made was a ammunition pressure test barrel that was also used for accuracy testing. That went to Hornady in 6.5CM. Normally a 6.5CM test barrel is getting pulled from service around 1700 to 1800 rounds. That first barrel got pulled at 3500+. Right around that round count is when they seven the velocity drop/spread open up. Which is usually a sign the barrel is going to be done and the pressure changed. Accuracy was great the whole time as well.

There is another accuracy test barrel in 6.5CM that we made at another ammo/bullet maker and is currently still being shot. It’s not at the end of it’s life yet. When I get those numbers I can post an update on that as well.

I posted even more info than this on snipershide back a few months ago.

On that first test barrel....at 1900 rounds it was shooting groups from .4 to .59 range with a light weight bullet. This was at a round count when they normally would pull the barrel from service. I did get regular updates prior to this.

I got updates at just under 2200 rounds, at 2300 rounds, at 2600 rounds, and at 3300+ rounds. At 3300+ rounds is when they seen the shift in pressure and velocity changes but the barrel still shot 140gr bullets into .32" groups but they did officially retire the barrel from any testing work at this time due to the change in the pressure/velocity that they seen. They did consider it done but did shoot it to 3500+ rounds the next week. The barrel is still in they're possession. Time permitting here and there they will keep shooting it to see where accuracy wise it completely gives up the ghost.

But it's not a priority to keep testing it anymore at this time with all the stuff going on in the gun world as we all know. At some point I'll ask for it back so we can cut it in half to look at the inside of it.

Are those businesses begging for work paying a livable wage? Even double the minimum wage is likely not sufficient.
I think we in the US need to redefine what ‘a livable wage’ is. Call me old fashioned, but to me, a livable wage does not include things like an iPhone 12, $150 shoes, designer clothes, eating out multiple times a week, pop, alcohol, tobacco, new cars, etc. if people learned to live within their means instead of bitching that their means doesn’t support the lifestyle they want to live,

16-18.00 hr thats the norm here in MT.
Some peoples livable wage is different than others.
If your decent at swinging a hammer building you could get 20.00.
Skilled labor is about 20 -25.00
Before the Kung flu Flathead Valley unemployment was 3% construction never did shut down the state has been pretty much wide open for quite awhile but now 6% unemployment and valley is busier than ever doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out.

spot on!

I know of warehouse jobs here locally...not hard work but they are starting people at $20 an hour and a $2000 signing bonus....can't get anyone.

I know a stock maker told me a week ago....they could hire 12-14 people right now. They've run 3 different ad's. Only people that have shown up to put in a application was so they could turn it into unemployment for the benefits. He said the last add they took out...offered a $700 signing bonus....not one response to the ad.

Our daughters boyfriend....got fired last Nov. and not even making an effort to look for a job. We've been all over him about it. He started sweating the unemployment checks not coming....so he got a job...worked one day....next day his first unemployment check came and he got $4200. He quit the job the same day. He was getting just over $600 a week and now with the last stimulus....think he is at $900 a week. Sits at home and plays video games.

I offered him part time work back in October...said no it's o.k.......offered him a full time job when he got fired....no it's o.k...... then when he started sweating it he asked if we could hire him. I said, I'll call you tomorrow and you have to come down and sit down with 3-4 of us. He said ok. I called him 3x. Never picked up the phone. So we hired someone else.

He said the lady at the unemployment agency told him to go back to school and not to worry about looking for a job!

I hope your daughter is seeing what a turd she is hanging out with. Being retired and living in Wisconsin, I would love to work part time at Bartlein if I lived close enough to justify the drive. :D
Cheers

Frank- Are you finding that the new “hard steel barrels” are holding similar tolerances and bore straightness to the traditional SS, after machining and stress relieving?
Seems like a good option for the guys that like the 28 Nosler.
Great thread...

The steel isn't any real harder per say. It is a little but not drastic. The chemical composition of the material is the difference.

No differences in holding tolerance etc...from reaming, rifling, drilling etc...

It does machine a little different. We see it in chambering as well but nothing that is causing anyone any issues.

28 Nosler and 26 Nosler and similar rounds.....just hard on barrels but it should help those as well. Don't forget cleaning etc... all variables.
