Brass shavings in FL sizing die

I'm getting brass shavings in my fl sizing die and occasionally a brass ring shaving will form at the base of the case what could be the cause?

Full length size
Shoulders bumped .002~
Bushing size is loaded round -.002
No expander ball

When are you trimming your cases? I am guessing your cleaning media has gotten brass in it from case trimming and it is now showing up in your sizing die.

I had the same thing happen to me.

Rarely trim cases for this caliber no brass in my media

The shavings is coming from the resizing

That big sliver in the picture is a ring that formed near the bottom of the case from sizing

Have you thoroughly cleaned your FL die and checked to see if this alleviates the issue - inspect the die visually and by feeling (if you can fit a finger inside) for damage/debris?
Have you measured your fired cases - especially at the base - and compared to newer brass?
How many firings do you have on the brass already?
Are you loading hot (which will cause more expansion of the case)?

I've seen poorly radiused neck bushing do that. But if that's coming from the bottom of the case then I'd polish the inner edge of the mouth of the die.

Using a Redding Titanium bushing that's worked normally in another die and cleaned it before using it in this die

Edge of the mouth feels smooth, surface finish of the die is very nice. It's a higher end die

Yes I cleaned the die with alcohol before use came out clean

Surface finish is very nice as far as I can feel

Base measures .473~ / resized measures .469 I don't have virgin brass right now to measure

10+ firings (6.5x47)

On the high side 140 Hybrids going 2750-2770fps out of 26" barrel

Please post a picture of a sized case, also please indicate the amount of case sizing the die is producing.
It has to be coming from somewhere.

Die is sizing .003-.004

Fired case
Just before the shoulder measures .459
.200 above the base measures .473

Sized case
Just before the shoulder measures .456
.200 above the base measures .469

Tony1320,

.004 at the base is quite a bit of sizing back there. That area of the case is quite thick and not as easily sized as the shoulder area, for example....you're right at the amount of sizing that will start producing some brass peel off.

Depending on whose die it is, the mfg. may be able to open the base up .002...that's the amount of sizing I'd want in that area.

Hope this helps. -Al

After having some die issues years ago, I clean my dies the same way I clean my barrels. Had some nickel brass the flaked off and caused me grief as well.

Just to add a few numbers to help.
New Lapua brass at the 200 mark, ....... .4690
JGS reamer print, 6.5x47L, at the 200 mark..... .4717

To me it looks like your chamber is slightly oversized and your die is on the small side a bit.

Tolerance stacking.

If the fired case will re chamber with no issues, size the neck only, load and go shooting.

If you're full length sizing, might consider putting lube "above" the base/scuff area to help the case slide in the die?? Sounds like the chamber is larger at the base?
Also, might consider a "bulge buster" die for the base. Better yet, do the neck thing and move on. ;) Keep it simple.

Finding a brass ring , is the ring size the size of the body or the neck . I would think it's the neck OD , your fired case neck is being shaved off when sized down , is the bushing placed in your die with the bevel up or down ? Bevel should be face down.
