Need help with brass choices

I need some help on Peterson vs Lapua 6BR brass. I shoot (I should say try to) IBS 600yd competition. Last fall I was down to my last 500 new Lapua cases and couldn't find any more but found 500 of the same lot Peterson's and got them in, put them up and made it through the season with the brass I was using. I had Mike Davis make me a fire from barrel with my BRA reamer and run it in . 002 short and every spring I shoot prairie dogs with the new brass I am going to use for the season. Getting ready to go after the dogs and got the Peterson brass out and was going to start loading up and weighed a few cases, very consistent. But, they all weigh 138grs, the Lapua cases all weigh 128! That's a hell of a difference! What I need to know from some of you guys who are using or have switched between the two what to expect here. I don't know whether to use my last 500 Lapua cases and sell the Peterson or start from scratch and work up loads based on the new cases? Kinda caught between the devil I know and the one I don't, need input from some who "been there and got the t-shirts, thanks John

Perhaps did you mean to put a "1" in front of your weight numbers? My Peterson 6BR brass is significantly heavier than my Lapua also. The flyer in the Peterson box pretty much says you'll need to work up a new load with the brass. My Peterson necks are also thicker--I had to turn for my "no turn" chamber (.272"). Like you I was very impressed with how consistently
they weighed and measured. I only fire formed 6 of them and can't find my notes (grrr) but I remember they took less Varget for the same speed as Lapua. If I were you I'd test a few to see how they fireform. If things don't work out they should be an easy sale. Revised to say I’m shooting in a straight 6br

From the difference I see between the two, I definitely think we need to work up from scratch when swapping over to Peterson. I have not swapped over with my 6mmBR yet but I have swapped over with my 260AI brass and definitely see a huge difference in weight.

”Perhaps" I did! Glad you caught that, us old men need all the help we can get. I guess the older I get the less I like changing things up, got my neck turning tool set, all my aztec numbers, and sizing bushings ect. Thanks for the input and catching my error, John

I posted on this very topic about 16-18 months ago as I decided to try out the Peterson brass. - There were several active forum competition shooters who posted on the thread and had great things to say about both Peterson & Lapua 6mm Norma BR brass. - No they are not interchangeable as far as load data goes. - The general consensus that was provided was to fire-form with a slightly lower charge (approx. 1 grain lower) on the first firing and then start load development about .5 to .75 grains below what Lapua brass used in that "given" rifle chamber.

Here's the link to that topic/post for review:
I've loaded a bunch up but have yet to go fire-form it and start the process as I've been busy with other projects & work.

Good Luck & Good Shooting.

When I can get both feet through my underwear in the morning without falling over it’s already a good day

Thanks for the link, and for being kind enough not to point out that I had forgotten it and even replied to it. The fact that they are made in the USA is the reason I went to them to begin with when I got my first 6CM. I had no Lapua to compare it to so I never noticed the difference. Think I will just go ahead and load it up and try it. Thank y'all for the comments and help, John
