Multipurpose Competition rifle build

Alex Wheeler

Site $$ Sponsor
I am reposting this, my original cell phone pics were pretty terrible.
This rifle was built to be a LG, HG, and ELR rifle. Its a Bat M with all 3 bolts timed and blueprinted to the action. It makes LG with a 6BRA HV and aluminum butt plate. A steel butt plate with tungsten rod bolted to it ads 5 pounds and brings it up to 23 pounds with the 338 lapua improved 1.250 straight contour.

Beautiful rifle Alex. Had Alex build me rifle several years ago and could not be happier. He answered all my questions regarding the build and I took his advice. Wheeler Accuracy gets a lot exposer here and it is all well deserved.

Like you (Jackson1) Alex built me a 284 F Class rifle on a Borden action. Totally agree with your opinion. Craftsmanship is top draw. (And boy does it shoot!)

a lot to be said for having one rifle for everything. I've thought often of selling several rifles and picking the stock/action I like the most and going switch barrel.
Great job

A lot of times when guys build a switch barrel they get it shooting really well and don't want to swap it around. It really depends on what you want to do. I like messing around so it doesnt bother me. You just have to ask yourself, if its hammering can I take it apart? :)

If it's hammering I like to walk softly around it and hold my breath when I'm near it. Perhaps even touch it only with cotton gloves. :)

OK, maybe that's far fetched but I have swapped barrels and never got the gun to shoot the same. Perhaps calling in a shaman to recite an incantation over the barrel so it lasts longer would be more appropriate. In switch barrels I find that I'm just to lazy to swap them so I usually end up building another rifle.

That's and darn nice looking rifle by the way. My neighbor has been calling you about building a couple for him. He's a hard core hunter and fisherman. Please do his so he can keep us supplied with meat. I'm to old and lazy to stomp 5 or 15 miles into the bush to get my own wild meat.

To each his own, some guys swap barrels in a match others wont touch it. I think its in your head, but I probably would be a little shy too if I was trying to be competitive. Now I just like to learn. The 10 match IBS group agg record holder has no issue changing barrels during a match but I get the hesitancy.

It's definitely in the head. The materials won't change and the tolerances won't change so there is really no reason not to swap. But for the primitive superstitious nature of man overruling the higher functions of the brain that do understand the physics.
