Winchester Pre 64 Featherweight

I am having a bit of a debate on this. I am under the impression that the Pre-64 Featherweight did not have a dog nut, and it is the only model they made without this dog knot. Can anyone point me in the direction to verify this? TIA.

I didn't think so. My smith told me the Featherweight was the only pre-64 without it. I had 2, neither had it. Someone is insisting they do. Are you familiar if any of the other 9 pre-64 models lack the dog nut? Thank you. I appreciate the picture.

A feature on some Pre-64 Win 70 model barrels.

The pre 64 FWT barrel does not have the barrel bump, but it does have a flat area on the barrel for the rear sight as shown in John's pic above.

Pre 64s with heavier barrels didn't have the barrel bump either.

Yes, lots of photos of pre-64 barrels at that site, so you can peruse and see for yourself. No FW I ever saw had the "knot." All non-FW sporter barrels did, I believe.

BTW, that is a great site to buy a replacement barrel for a pre-64 if you need one. They seem to be take-offs from the original rifles, but many have been shot very little. I just had one put on my '06 FW, and the writing on it is identical to the factory barrel's. It also shoots incredibly well.
