I have a question for the Winchester pre '64 mod 70 guru's....

Did Winchester ever produce a clean barrel pre '64, model 70? Meaning a factory gun with a sporter barrel, with no sights or tapped holes for sights? The gun in question is a pre '64, featherweight in .270 and I've been told it is a factory gun with no sights on the barrel. I haven't seen it yet.

Let me know what you think.
Thanks,
Bob

They did! They were special ordered in quantity by the old Gopher shooter's supply in Faribault MN, a wholesale dealer. They were eventurally called "Gopher Specials" and usually bring a premium.

Thank you! That is exactly what I was looking for.

The son of an acquaintance had a Model 70 dated from 1962. It was a featherweight 30-06, 22 inch barrel, no sights nor holes in the barrel. I don't recall that he was ever in a Gopher store.

As was stated, Gopher was a wholesaler, did not have retail stores
