Air Rifle Scope??

Hello, I need some help in getting a decent scope for a Gamo Swarm Whisper pellet rifle I bought to kill squirrels around my house. It is .22 cal and uses the Inert Gas Technology (gas piston, not springer). It has a Gamo 4x32 Scope on it and I don’t think much of it. Can anybody recommend a decent scope to put on the rifle. My shots will mostly be 20-40 yds. I do not know anything about air rifle scopes and age is making it hard to see the front sights. Thanks for your recommendations.

Check out the various Hawke scopes. They have specialty air gun scopes. I have a couple of them and they would do quite well for your stated purposes. 3-9 power variable or so would do the job for you..

I'm 71 and for me more power is good. Your gas piston is still a "springer", it compresses gas for the spring instead of a conventional. spring. Still has the double recoil. You will need a scope that is built to handle springers. Depending on your budget you can go with a Centerpoint 4-16 X 40 IR, $78 @ Amazon. Bushnell Nitro 4-16 or 6-24 X 44, about $250 (on sale). Athlon Argos HMR 4-20 X 50 about $225 (on sale). Sightron STAC 3-16 X 42 under $300 (on sale). All have parallax adjustment and will focus down to 10 yards. For mounts, I highly recommend using dovetail to weaver adapters and Burris Sig Z rings. Here's a pic of the mounts: IMG_20210409_191158.jpg
Edit: The adapters also work on rimfires.

Thanks Mike, I was wondering about the springer vs the gas piston. I firmly believe you get what you pay for. Don’t want to sink too much into one. If I have to I’ll break out the CZ 453 and take care of the problem. I have a .177 Benjamin Sheridan pump but the iron sights are getting hard to see plus I wanted a .22 cal pellet rifle. Appreciate the info.

We have the Gamo whisper mach 1 in 22 cal. Once you get the feel of how it likes to be shot it'll keep tearing a big ragged hole at 25 yards. The scope that came with it is nearly useless but did hold a 25 yard zero which surprised me.

I had a couple extra 16x SWFA scopes and added a UTG drooper +33moa mount which let's us dial each distance. At 197 yards even dialed all the way up Chris had to hold over 7 mil but was getting hits on my gong steadily.

Out thru 100 yards the rig worked really well. I'm sure there are some that clain it's lobbing rounds and hoping for hits but it's surprising how accurate lobbing can be.

These new pellet guns aren't what we shot as kids, pretty darn cool to stretch their legs and hear it ring distant targets.

While I’m a fan of those mounts on my firearms, are you sure they’ll hold up to springer recoil?

I’ve had good luck with thoroughly degreasing everything and using BKL double strap rings. Damn springer recoil.

Agree about the scope list.

Gamo gas ram guns are pretty hard on their mounts and scopes. They tend to be lightweight with a lot of plastic which just increases the shock for the accessories strapped to it.

The UTG dovetail to weaver adapters come with setscrews to mitigate springer recoil and the dreaded scope "slide". Mike
