.303 British with CFE BLK and IMR 4227

I wanted to reload my .303 Brit with IMR 4227 (Understand it is a magnum pistol powder, But have heard of people doing it.) I was wondering if I actually could. I'm using a Lee classic hand loader with its provided dipper. with the provided dipper I found it to be approximately 34.6 grains. Is it safe? In addition I have CFE BLK that I was wondering if I could use also. That is a more dedicated rifle powder, but I wanted to know about that one too. Im also using 150 grain fmj ppu projectiles I am only looking for answers that get to the point (not trying to sound like a butthole)

I believe that it is more than a tad brisk for that use.

Back in the day, I used 25 or so grains of 4198 in the .303 behind the 170 grain Lyman flat nose cast bullet designed for the 30-30, and it got me around 2000 fps, but I wouldn't consider it, much less a faster one with jacketed bullets.

How about CFE BLK?

WAAY too fast for .303B! Lots of powders work, but the fastest that I had good results with was H335.

IMR 4227 has published data by Lyman for cast bullets only that I can find.

There is a thread at the bottom of this page with some 303 British reloading sources.

British Enfields are not the strongest actions out there. I wouldn't do it with the two powders you referenced with jacketed bullets.
