which stock for a lightweight hunting rifle.

I have a McMillan Game Warden, a Manners EH1, and a AG Composites. All are in the 28 - 30 oz range. I like the feel of the AG Composite the best. The McMillan and Manners are pretty thick in the grip area. These are all in long action magnum rifles with proof sendero contour barrels. I also have a Manners EH8 + on a short action it is like 26 oz and it's a nice smaller feeling stock. The + means it will fit up to a proof sendero light contour from what I'm told.

I like my game warden max stock it feels very comfortable to shoot. There’s also the McMillan hunter that’s a more traditional style hunting stock.

The lightest is the Manners UC. Its a full sized stock and you can free float the barrel. 17oz. If you dont need it that light I like the McMillan Hunter for a sporter style and the game hunter for a vertical grip style. The Game Warden max that they made for me has now been discontinued, but it was my personal favorite. Both can get down to about 28oz. if ordered right.

Dam they did stop making the Max then. The last one I ordered they said they was more than likely not going to offer it any longer. thats what I was going to order for my vampire.

I had to order 10 to get them to do one last batch. It was a great design, so I wanted to have a few in inventory. I have a few here to build on vampires and max's, it doesnt get any better than that combo.

What is the difference in a Game Warden and a Game Warden Max?

Alex all probably be waiting for a year to get my left handed vampire. Steve said there’s only been three sold so far.

What is the weight savings from a stock Tikka or Rem in factory wood ? 2 oz or 4 oz if any ? Just asking for those that dont build or pay $$$ to have built and have carry the thing a ways. When I purchased my first Tikka Hunter in 2016 I weighed the stock and was surprised that it was close or less than some high $$ custom or aftermarket " light" stocks.

I have a couple game wardens with edge fill that I really like.

I also purchased one of Stockys carbon stocks that is quite impressive.

Greyboe also just came out with an interesting new design for a lightweight stoc.

XS have you used the stocky carbon stock? That is one of the stocks I was interested in. The mcmillian seems like every thing was extra money the recoil pad sling swivels and so on.

I don't know anything about Tikka stocks. For factory Remington, all of their wood stocks aren't the same. I have some Laminated wood long action stocks that weigh 44 ounces. I had a Manners UC short action stock that weighed 18 ounces. Everything else, wood/glass/graphite, will be between those two.

Personal taste has a lot to do with stock choice. My choice for a Bartlein #3 contour would be a McMillan BDL stock. If you prefer something without a cheekpiece, a McMillan Remington Classic would be a good choice. If you like a real skinny forend, a McMillan Hunter would be a good choice. If you like a vertical grip, a McMillan Game Scout would be a good choice. If you like a classic look, a McMillan Sporter would be a good choice.

Those are the only stocks I would consider.

The perfect stock for my taste would be a McMillan Hunter with a Remington Classic size forend.
