Is this still available?

After considerable thought, I've given up searching my weary brain for the answer to why people with minimal or zero counts for Messages, Reaction Score, or Feedback will post "Is this still for sale" and then go silent after the OP responds in the positive. I've seen this numerous times on ads, even those that clearly indicate the item was sold months or years before. It's happened often enough on my own threads that I no longer respond unless I get a 2nd query. Admittedly I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer (happy to accept counter opinions) so maybe one of you can school me on the reason for this all too common occurrence. It's just a puzzlement because I don't see this being posted by long standing members with frequent activity.

Some people think they were born special and the item in interest is just magically waiting there for them!

It is funny that you bring this up because I have been thinking like you for awhile. I have seen a bunch of them on forums lately, way more than ever and wondering WTFIGO.

Some are new here and don't look at posting dates, and just sometimes the item is still available,,it's a miracle. Just because they have a sign up date of 4 years ago don't mean squat if they have never been
back until now.

On another forum, a guy asked about building a “brush gun” on a 1917 Enfield action, for hunting wild hogs. His action had the back end ground off, so no safety. That was his first post on that forum. I offered to give him another 1917 action that had been welded on. He never replied. I ended up selling it to another guy on that forum.

Back in the day when I was member of another gun forum you had to have 100 post counts before you could sell or buy, maybe they are racking them up...

Why can't people use the PM option. Have a Question if something is still available , PM them. Have a question on there original post that is a year old or older PM Them

only issue with pm is you don’t get notifications on this forum with pms.

I do. I get a little red flag next to my mail icon.
I think they’re just desperate new guys searching. Could be scammers trolling, too.

we don’t count since we are always on here lol...I’m not talking the actual notification on the forum. I’m talking an email notification like what other forums do.

I think you can go into the notification settings to get them. I used to get emails all the time from the forum until I changed it. I’ll go look.......

Yup! It’s in the “preferences” section of your profile page. I’m no computer whiz but I think that what it means.

I think it's just one of life's little mysteries, alongside (and I see this a LOT) people who respond to questions about a product in Amazon.com's customer reviews with "I don't know" when they haven't even been asked.
