Help getting into F Class

To any new shooters, I'm still shooting a 3P style stock off a harris bipod and posting placing scores in open at our club level with some serious shooters. Being confident and comfortable with your gear is far more advantageous than a brand new rig in a style you aren't sure how to be comfortable on. A good fitting prone set-up should be so comfortable you could fall asleep on the rifle and not change the natural point of aim.

Use the gear you got, have fun and just put rounds down range. Most of us compete against ourselves anyway.

Do this, then figure out what you need versus what you want. Usually some one will help you out and let you try their stuff, at least rests.

Congratulations on getting into F-Class. Lots of fun and incredibly addictive. I hear there is a 12 step process to try and get out of F-Class, but it rarely works. Enjoy!!!!

^^^This LOL. "You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave".
I DISAGREE with the above statements! Just because you will spend countless thousandths of dollars "feeding your hobby", or find every reason ever cleverly created as to WHY you need another gun or an "upgraded" scope OR why it becomes necessary to constantly develop loads is NO indication you are addicted! Not to mention the fact that your "travel expenses" will skyrocket on the NEED to travel to matches OR the possibility of the "NEED" to purchase a larger vehicle to store your newfound equipment in, is certainly NO indication of any addiction! Just because you feel the insatiable "need" to come back match after match after match where your source of desire comes from, ONLY indicates a healthy imagination to fulfill those above listed "needs"! That's not an addiction! However, IF you believe my last statement, YOU ARE ADDICTED, because the other ones ARE true!!! LOL!!!

I’ve been running smallish Highpower matches for 20 years. Beyond eye and ear protection, and a decent attitude, the main things I want to see in a new mid or long range shooter are:
A zero at some distance. I don’t care what that distance is. Just have your gun zeroed at a distance you can tell me, I can figure out the rest.
Scope tightly attached to rifle.
Barreled action tightly attached to stock.
Ammo, whether factory or hand loads, with reasonable match bullets. FMJ’s and lead soft points do not tell me you’re serious.
Some familiarity with your rifle and any rest/ bipod you’ll be using. This might take ten minutes on your living room floor.
That’s pretty much it. Everyone wants you to succeed, and is happy to have you at the match.
Dig in, it’s fun!
