Detachable magazine recommendations

I'm putting together a coyotey rifle in 6mm and am going to install the bottom metal for a detachable magazine and would like recommendations from you folks! It seems like Badger Ordinance is somewhat of a standard, but I've looked at others such as the ones from Wyatt and Hawkins. I don't care for the Badger obtrusive mag release hanging down, but I see that they now have an "enhanced" model (306-82C) that looks much nicer! One major consideration is that I want the cartridge OAL as long as possible for a short action. Some I've researched were 2.880"; can someone tell me what the AICS inside length is? I see Magpul makes mags for them; any idea on their inside length?
Thanks in advance for sharing!

I have the H.S. Precision units in two rifles, a 6.5-284 and a 28 Nosler. Straight stack, they feed perfect. Have used Wyatt's and they work fine also but switched to the H.S. units for shorter, more flush, magazines.

Hi Steve, this is what I have been using.

Check out Curtis bottom metal. The mag release is in the trigger guard. No chance you'll bump it during use. It's M5 inlet and takes Accurate magazines. Make sure you get the mags without the binder plate. Mine will take 2.980 OAL rounds and feed with no problem. I usually load at 2.975. I'm using that bottom metal on a new build also. I've been using PT&G flush bottom metal with the exposed latch. Not the best for a hunting set up but I've been pretty lucky with those set ups. The Curtis is IMO the best for hunting.

Thanks, Walt! i like the fact that the length can be 3.050"!
That's the physical size of the mags NOT the internal size. You can't use 3.050 OAL rounds in the mags. These are the same mags I use. The non-binder plate model will get you to around 2.980 max

Now I'm a little confused! TAC284's photos show an internal (cartridge OAL) dimension of 2.903", and 284winner says that the AI mags will take 2.980" lengths. Are these the same mags?

Can't speak for his but mine take 2.980 rounds.

I believe magpul is real close to 2.800. Maybe 2.85 Max.

Pretty good explanation on the "Binder Plate" in link. Go down to lower portion of page

That's good info from MDT. Pretty much gives the correct numbers. I can load to 2.980 but stay at 2.975 so I have decent clearance for feeding. I use the 162 Amax but if I use the 160 Accubonds, I can load at 2.90 which is even better for 100% guaranteed clearance in all conditions.

Here's another option from Hawkins.

That's what is so nice about this forum - a lot of folks out there with a lot of knowledge! Interesting about the binder plate; have any problems feeding without them?
So, do I have this correct.....do all of these bottom metal assemblies take the same AI magazine, and the length difference is just in the magazine?

The M5 style bottom metal take the AI style mags. HS precision is BDL bottom metal which is a different inlet. At least the 1st generation was BDL. Remington factory bottom metal with the floor plate is considered BDL or M4. Stocky's has M4 bottom metal and mags for factory in-letted stocks. Most of the Badger, Seekins, PT&G, AICS, Hawkins etc is M5. If it says accepts AICS mags, it needs M5 bottom metal.
