Caliper repair question

In an attempt to clean and organize my reloading bench I accidentally knocked the rack that holds my calipers off the bench. It hit the floor hard. Only 3 out of 7 survived unscathed.
My prized “shock resistant” Mitutoyo dial caliper ended up with the pointer facing parallel to the handle at .025 when closed. Other than sending it in for repair, does anyone know of a simple fix for this or is there one?
One more stupid mistake like this and I will own the whole set.

Do you have a manual? Running the calliper thru its range and checking for binding or "twitching" might be informative. Can the dial be rotated and "zeroed"?

Running it full length back and forth I found a real rough spot betwen 51/2 and 6". At one point it did jump back to streaight up 0 but when checked with pin gages it would be about .005 off one way or the other each time I closed it. After back and forth over the rough spot several more times the needle jumped to .076. I moved the dial to 0 and now it's spot on. Cleaned as suggested and checked with various pin gages several times and seems to be working fine. I'll just never open it enough to hit that rough spot again.
Thanks for the help.

Replace them how many times do repairs not go right and if you cannot trust them afterwards you just wasted even more money
