TSA 9mm Brass Issue

Recently, reloaded 500 9mm, mixed cases. I had 50 cases stamped TSA. They were all messed up, bullets going in crooked, and bulging the outside diameter of the case to .383-.386. I pulled them, and put them in other cases, (win, fed, etc) and they were fine. Must be the brass. I used 115gr Speer CPRN .355 - 4.6gr of 231 - 1.145 OAL , and shot perfect in my shield.

I had some 9MM cases (don't recall the head stamp) that had a shoulder on the inside of the case that if a bullet could be seated, they would have created a huge bulge also. Those all went to the scrap brass bucket.

I'll have to check the inside. I did with my caliper. Someone from TSA said they can be loaded up to 7 times. Plus, this ammo is NOT made in the USA from what he said. I'm going to try some Friday night after work, with some extra 90gr HP's.

cbc 9mm cases have caused me more problems, their case walls thicken further down the case than win or fc or r-p causing certain bullets seated deeper to pass the plunk test for my gun

I, too, have experienced similar issues with questionable casings. While CBC is not my first choice for Handloading due to a high failure rate while resizing, the following images demonstrate just how diverse the OFB offerings can be. The MAXX casings are simply dangerous to deal with.

Note the profound reduction in internal case capacity. Typically the normal propellant charge with spill out either in single charging or a progressive press. If one is observant you will catch this as you attempt to place the bullet for seating. Better to pre-inspect/segregate your cases prior to placing in line to adding to your case feeder, or charging block.
Be alert, Ladies and Gentlemen.

WTH kind of cases are those? Never seen any like that.

A "ring" inside? I'm wondering if TSA is using thicker walled brass, and thinner bullets, but then they wouldn't shoot., weird.

you think that enteral ledge on the maxx case is to prevent bullet setback during feeding? and large flash hole why? that case is a accident waiting to happen for a reloader

Here are those TSA cases again.....

Some say that cases that are filled to 95-100% of capacity with the appropriate powder will give the best consistency for those whose goal is accuracy. this may be part of the reason for the thick walls.

Did you use the Lee factory crimp die to finish the round, or just the seating die?

I would be surprised if the factory crimp die did not make those rounds look better than what is shown in the pictures.

I haven't had any of the MAXX cases yet, but all the others come out of the factory crimp die looking good and drop right into the chamber gauge.

As for case failures, I have had some fail after the initial firing while others in the same box can be loaded 10 times, and still have no cracks or tears. This is not as uncommon as you might think and is why every case should be inspected before being loaded.

In my experience, CBC and Aguila cases are problematic. Aguila cases tend to have the flash hole off center.

Taper crimp die used...

IMHO, 9mm brass is to prevelant to waste that kind of time and effort on it. Maybe if I had a dump truck load of it, and nothing else was available...
BRASS WHORE..LMAO

Right on, i only have 50 or so...Ill keep them till I have a solution, etc.

I’ve had some of that MaxxTech 9mm. It goes straight to recycle. I don’t know what that ring is for, perhaps for “the glock bulge”?

Man I have to agree with that statement.... If it's not Federal , CCI Blazer or Winchester it goes straight into the recycling bucket.... I gave up on off brand brass sooooo long ago.... I won't even pick it up anymore...

O.K,

Inquiring minds wish to know. How much do the cases weigh and what is the case weight variation?

Have fun,
