300 Black Out fired in a .223

This is what happens when you fire a short BO with a 110 gr projectile in a .223. The copper jacket is all that is left and the lead swaged down and went out the barrel. New there was a reason I don't own an BO. New rifle was being tested. Not new no more. One of the guys in town cut the barrel so you could see the bullet jacket.

I saw a picture of one of these mishaps before. It was a 300BO with a 125 grain bullet that in this instance, the bullet cleared the muzzle intact. It came out as 125 grain .22 caliber bullet, it kinda looked like a pencil. I don't remember if any damage happened to the gun or not.

Here is a Daily Bulletin Article on the subject.

THIS is why this can happen -- You can get a .300 Blackout in a .223 Rem Chamber!

Also, guys, please learn to use the photo button and/or drag and drop for photos. This way the image will fill the frame instead of just being a thumbnail. Many members do not realize you can click on the thumbnail to enlarge the image. This was just copied and pasted into the frame. Easy-Peasy.

Many 300 Blackout COL's are set so that the .250" portion of the bullet nose ride on the rib of the magazine where the 223 neck would ride for optimal feeding.

So depending on the shape of the bullet, it depends on where the .300" diameter of the bullet meets the .223 shoulder. Somewhere around 1.520" base to ogive on the blackout round. A short round like a 110 Vmax fit right in without a fight.
In fact a Varmageddon is so short it won't fire.

Is the photo button you refer to the one that says resize?

Boss: No, Top row of entry box, to right of thing that looks like a paperclip is a little rectangle. Click on that. But even easier is just copy/paste or drag and drop.

I've seen someone send a copper plated 150gr 300BLK down a 223 barrel, thankfully it was not a max load, no damage. It depends on the maker, some of those are pretty soft.

Definitely an "oh #&!@" moment.

Out ground squirrel sniping in a desert canyon one day, my buddy reached without looking for one of his 22-250 loads but grabbed one of my 223s by mistake. I was spotting for him, so I heard a click then "Oops". Misfired, thank God. Never place your cartridge boxes near each other.

well now they know the barrel bore accurately. Maybe they can post up who the manufacturer is and how good they are with their barrel bore size.

I'm surprised a 30 cal would chamber in a 223 chamber.
300 Whisper (now BO) was designed such that you need only change barrel. You use the same bolt and magazine. When I took mine to the range, I made a point of keeping the uppers and ammo together, either in the bag or on the bench. Having 300 ammo and the 223 upper in the same place is asking for trouble.
