204 Ruger Bullet Splash

Ya, I am using a Thermion XP50 now...those 2 videos of mine are with a Pulsar Trail XQ38. The Thermion is awesome and is on its second season...really nice scopes.
Indeed.

My video had several Pulsar thermal and NV scopes.

I currently have the XP38 640p

35gr berger took this kitty this morning. No splash, actually went right through. Was about 110 yards away. Ran about 25 yards and fell right there.

I was calling coyotes, saw her run in on the side and caught my eye. She stood there long enough for me to get a shot off. I have seen them before when out in woods before. This is 3rd one ive called in. The other 2 i never saw. People with me saw them, one shot at one of them but missed and it ran off. Was crazy to actually see it myself come in.

We have a few bobcats in Ohio, however, no open season as of yet!

Our season closes end of this month. I got lucky. She goes to taxidermy tomorrow to get her fixed up. And i bet it will be a long time to get back.

Any body tried the 40g Nosler ballistic tip? I've used the 40g V max at 3980 fps.in my 20 Br on Prarie dogs. I was not overly impressed with the splat factor.

Not personally but several guys I know have had splash with any and all of the tipped 204 offerings. They switched to the berger 35s and splash issues went away.

If 32-gr V-Max "splashed" on the surface of coyotes they would do the same on p-dogs, but despite shooting thousands of them I have never one "splash." How is coyote different from a badger? Never had a 32 shot out of my 1:12 204 "splash" off one of them, either. If you don't think 32-gr V-Max with penetrate well try shooting AR500 steel with them at 200 yards sometime. Your larger calibers flatten out against it but the 32's gouge a 5/8" diameter shallow crater out every time.

All high-speed bullets are prone to ricochet (glance off) when they hit a hard bone, and the higher the velocity the more likely it is to happen. The smaller the bullet, the more likely it is to happen. And, logic tells me that plastic tips are going to make it more likely to happen.

The 32 V-Max do incredible damage. At 600 yards it still has the velocity of a .22 LR at the muzzle. But, yeah, at its higher velocities (at closer ranges) you better avoid large bones or they may glance off, going who knows where.

35Berger was good for coyotes in my .20TAC, 3950-ish.
Look into a 38gr. Unmussig. Specially built to kill coyotes, tested & proven by two coyote killer friends of mine. One shooting a .20-250 and the other a .204AI. So, they aren’t ‘splashing’ at well over 4K fps
I have a barrel’s worth of 38 Unmussig in store for a future ‘5x45AI’ night rig build...
