I personally use my Clausing 6913 lathe for chambering. I have used the G0509 gunsmith lathe. My only complaint is the D1-6 tooling. It ain't necessary for gunsmith and 99% of lathe work. Chucks and backing plates are very heavy and very heavy.
The machine is heavy and has a wide speed range. If you can't cut a top notch chamber with it, a $250,000 new Monarch 10ee won't help you.

I like the looks of this one. Five year warranty. Taiwan and not Chinese made also....

I agree that I would like the D1-4. I believe it is made in Taiwan. I don't do any machining that would require more mass in the saddle. We all use ours a little differently and have different demands.
I believe that Mike Bryant's latest is a Precision Mathews. You may check with Nez "Bamban" as he just set up his new one. His specialty is AR barrels.

Ive got a G509g and a PM1340gt- If i could only have one It would be the PM

How short of a barrel can you chamber in each one of those? That g509 seems like a huge machine

ill go measure-- the grizz has the spindle drilled for an outboard spider- the PM does not and i didnt wanna drill mine so made a sleeve to slide on the spindle with set screws for a spider- this effectively makes the headstock wider of coarse.
looking at the beds on both machines, they are very close to the same size/ design.

sorry but I have the G0709 instead of the 0509- -- the 0509 is alot bigger. on the
G0709 the spindle is 18" long. with chuck 24" barrel is as short as i can do through headstock. with the PM i can do a 22 with the sleeve on spindle. that could be 20.5 if i drilled the spindle.

sorry my mistake, i have the G0709. its closer to the size of the PM1340. both these lathes have close to 1-7/16 spindle bore/
the G0509 has a 2" i believe-
The Eisen I have used for several years still has less than .0001 runout on the spindle bore.The PM looks like the same machine.You can order them with a threaded spindle for a spider.My only wish is that the bore was a little bigger .But don't ask my wife !!!

they do make a similar PM model with 2" bore
I did not know that.Unfortunately I'm too far down the road to re rig now.
