What is your opinion on these specs for a 600 yard F class Barrel ???

your barell is too light ,,your neck is too big,,your freebore is too short,,,besides that it should work fine,,,Roger
This is what I was afraid off , told my gunsmith i was needing one for F class and this is what he came up with . Im new at this and learning quick ... He is a top gunsmith in PRS , but F class , I'm having my doubts ..

I have shot a lot of HV barrels in F-class shooting a dasher, they work great. I have one 1.250” dasher barrel, not sure I will order another. A heavy varmint barrel is good to go.
I have several dasher barrels chambered with .104FB reamers and a few others chambered with my .150FB reamer. When fresh chamber is compared to fresh chamber there is .015” difference is BTO measurement with both set at touch using the wheeler method. Obviously, one is not what it says??I have and would again shoot either in LR benchrest or F-Class competition without reservations.

30"
.237 Bore
1.25 Straight
4 Groove
7 1/2 Twist
.272 neck
.150 to .155 FreeBore

Thanks

105 Berger VLDs love a .236 bore. Don’t get me wrong, they will shoot well in a .237 however I have seen better groups and scores in a .236 with those bullets. I have several .237 bore Krueger and Bartleins, for the custom bullets.
I have better luck with an 8 twist. I am currently playing with a 7.7 and it is just not winking yet??? The entire platform needs to be considered when looking at barrel diameter and length..... balance matters. I had a 32” 1.250” straight 284 for f-class, after some testing I had a couple of inches removed from the barrel. Shot and tested it more....... 30” on that rifle is way better than 32” One of my other guns (best shooting gun I have ever had) prefers a 28” HV barrel. I plan to test it with a 26 and 24” barrel soon.
My dashers are all .269 to .271, if I order another reamer it will be spec’ed for Alpha no turn...... not sure what that will be.

.272 is a standard for no turn lapua. .140-.150 is a standard for 105-108 class Bullets. You can get by with a lighter contour barrel but barrel heat can be an issue. 1-8 twists have set a pile of records with 105-108 class Bullets. It blows my mind how I hear and read about this 1-7 twist rage. I used to shoot a 243 Winchester when I started in Fclass. I shot 105-115 grainers and it shot all well. I didn’t realize how fussy a 243 could be until I switched to a 1-7.5 barrel. 1.250 or what is referred to as the speedy taper 1.110 at the muzzle is very common in f class. 28-32” is also common. balance is very important. As far as a dasher barrel length goes I feel no more than 30” is needed. I shoot a 6brx and I’ve played with my lathe and chronograph enough to know that 28” is efficient with this case capacity. Word of advice is don’t set up the gun for a 22 lb weight with a 28” barrel. Allow room to change it later on if needed to a 32” 1.250 and still make weight. I’m guessing you will be like the rest of us and the venom from the bug that bites us all will have you at long range with a bigger than 6 caliber. The dasher is so pleasant to shoot you don’t need max weight to be comfortable behind the gun for 22 shots. Good luck and enjoy it.
