How Far Would You Travel For Primers/Powder

I once drove from Ohio to New Jersey for a super heavy duty tripod i won on eBay for $5.00 because he wouldn't ship it. For the right thing at the right price I've done many roadtrips.

If someone had a stash of primers/bullets/powder and I needed it then a multi state drive wouldn't be out of the question but I've done that in normal times too.

Probably something like this in this market with my meager current inventory.

$250+ /1000 pass
$200-250/1000 BR4 only - 30 miles
$150-200/1000 BR4 or other match- 60 miles
$100-150/1000 BR4 or other match 100 miles
$50-100/1000 any and unlimited-4 hours one way.

wouldn’t sell them, maybe for what I have in them to friends. BTW, everything is 30 miles away for me.

If someone had some primers or powder that you needed how far would you be willing to travel to meet them for a sale/purchase/trade?
This seems like a silly topic, pure speculation. Seems like the answer would always be "it depends".

How about instead, if anybody cares, or wonders how far on the kooky/desperate spectrum they have gone, ask Forum Members how far they have actually traveled to meet someone for a shooting-related deal.

I'll start. I flew (yes, my arms were tired) from OAK to STL to attend the concealed-carry course being taught by John Ross (he of 'Unintended Consequences' fame). Just to meet him, have him sign my copy of his book, and shoot his machine-guns, etc. on his private range in a rock quarry. Flew in the day the class started, returned the very next day (after the shooting session, which included a Glock 18).

On the flight back, I was sitting next to a guy and his wife who expressed interest in, and support of, the shooting sports. So, I loaned him my copy of 'Unintended Consequences', with the condition that he get it back to me. Never saw it again. Long since out of print, and kind of a collector's item. I WANT THAT BOOK BACK. (It's been 10+ years...)

I drove 255 miles each way to deliver a few pounds of powder and some primers to a friend last Friday and I paid for the gas both ways. - He gave me some deer meat in exchange, and where we met up at had some Alliant Reloder 50 which I managed to be able to get a few pounds of.

I would drive 500 miles one way if I had to to get the components I need, but I don’t have to do that. I was prepared over a year ago and in 2020 I made an extra effort to get additional stuff on a monthly basis for this very situation. - We’ve been though it several times already and the first time taught me a lesson.

I drove an hour each way to sell some powder at below cost to a forum member. Only thing I need right now is some H335 and I would drive a couple of hours one way for an 8 pounder at a reasonable price. For anything over priced they can keep it. I'll just bide my time until the current ruling party implodes.

Well I drove 214 miles each way just a few days ago to get LR primers(1000). My fault I got caught with my pants down (yes that happens to me a lot),but my attentions have been focused on other things for almost a year.
I don't remember when it was I started looking for primers and powder but I think it was last spring. Tooooo late. But I am ok now for a year I guess. That is if I can keep my pants up!

Guys in the" Reloading" forum I posted about driving to Pennsylvania for primers, 180 mile round trip. Unfortunately they had sold out of Federal small rifle that morning. They as of Saturday afternoon had a decent inventory of Federal and Winchester primers for Large Rifle, Large Rifle Magnum, and Pistol primers.

Ace Sporting Goods
Washington PA

Good luck, keep em small and centered!!

Also, their Bullet selection was very limited.
Powder was non existent other than a little bit of pistol/shotgun stuff and Muzzleloading.

I just had a buyer drive five hours round trip for a jug of powder. The price somewhat reflected current conditions but a whole lot less than Gunbroker. The sad thing is, he can't even use it until he finds projectiles.

I once drove 170 miles one-way to buy an FN Browning Hi-Power for $325. That is the farthest I have ever driven for a shooting-related deal. I have conducted deals farther than that, but it was always when I was traveling for work, so that doesn't fit the ask.

Mr. William Jefferson Clinton taught me years ago never to get caught with my pants down again...... at least when it comes to reloading components that is!
