Groundhog Day (Hunting photo)

I shot one in a tree, shot it with a .45ACP. I used to have a German Shepherd (Thor) that loved to hunt ground hogs. He dug this one up from where it had burrowed along an abondoned railroad track. He dug into the stone ballast a ways and came up dragging this ground hog out by it's ass then it got away from him and run up a small clump of scrub trees. It sat there about two feet above my head gnashing it's teeth at me and Thor, so I pulled the Combat Commander and shot it. He was a good dog, and I also wish I still had that Colt.
I hear ya.... my Doberman, Coco will pass up a T-bone to fight a GHog. There's videos on YouTube over in the UK? of rat terrior's cleaning out rat infested areas..... imagine an 80# version. That's Coco. And even got the commander....

Old Thor was hell on groundhogs until the last one he went after. He was about 8 maybe 9 years old and ran a quarter of mile from the house to get this groundhog. When he caught up to it, it rolled over on it's back and evrytime Thor would go in to attack, the groundhog would bite him in the neck. I went and got a shotgun loaded with 00 Buck and went to help Thor. When I got there I called him off and shot the groundhog at about two feet away from it, that ended that. When I got him back to the house I noticed he was bleeding from several places. I took him to the Vet to look him over and he discovered the grounhog had bitten him four timess through the loose skin on his neck leaving eight holes in his neck. The Vet shaved his neck, cleaned the outside around the holes, gave him a shot to numb him and washed the holes, then with gauze soaked with an antiseptic pushed through the holes and back and forth like a shoe shine cloth.

WOW, seeing that my birthday is on ground hog day, i'm scared!
Never coming out of my hole again.

I have shot four or five out of a tree and many of them sitting on top of fence posts. The fence post shot has to be my favorite.
Cedar and sage brush, yes. Fence post/rail, yes. Another month or so in my area. But just a reminder from last spring.

Another trick of the trade, and only if it is 100% safe to do so. Shoot the rock inches away in front of the woodchuck or critter you’re shooting at, unbelievable!

Several off fence posts. Once missed low. Hog had its big fat belly laying on the top of a big corner post. 55 grain Vmax hit just a scooch low into the post. Hog launched straight up, spun like a top 180 degrees and landed next to the post looking very confused. I was laughing too hard to try again before he waddled off into the weeds.

Wake up , Get out there and do your part. STOP THE SHADOW. Shovels ,c4, vmax whatever it takes ,please help.

As a teenager my uncle would take me to his uncle's farm in SE Ohio. Part of the farm was an old rock quarry. There was a Ford dump truck that I killed a many a ground hog that would be standing up in the drivers seat looking out the window. The floor boards were rusted out and the passenger seat was missing. It had no windows or windshield and I took quite a few off the roof as well.

At a farm in Kentucky there was a rusted out hay conveyer that stood about 15 feet high. I would kill ground hogs off the top of it as they looked out over the hay field below it.

I have see groundhogs in Maple trees in early spring, mulberry trees and persimmon trees in late fall.

If you live in Pa. you've seen the lottery ads with Gus in them.
In a couple months, I'm coming for you Gus.

Looked out my bedroom window about 2 weeks ago and there was one in the corn field just meandering along a ditch, not in a hurry to do much it seemed. I was kind of surprised because it was January and it was chilly out. I got the 20P, figured I would take me a quick shot from off the patio table. After watching it through the scope for about minute, I decided to give it a pass.
He was out making more groundhogs

After 16,550+ handgun groundhog kills I think I'm on their hit list.
I saw a fox carrying one out of it's hole. Shot the fox. Groundhog still alive. I had no mercy. Shot him ,too
