David what donor brass are you looking to form 6x47L from? I’m assuming 6.5x47L.

Truthfully , I've got three and all I've ever done is lubed them and the necks and run through the 6x47 die. Since Peterson started making 6x47 brass , I just run it now in two of the guns and once I wear out the lapua brass , I'll switch it to peterson as well.

+1
The first batch of 6.5X47 Lapua cases I necked down was run through a Redding body die to reduce the necks to an intermediate diameter then the Forster FL die was used to finish size. Since then I have used only the Forster die to size in one step with perfect results.

I use the body die and the Forster FL die. I ran both dies just down to a touch on the Redding shell holder on my press, this seems to work well. When you do the body die first you’re just trying to partial size the neck down to a point just short of the shoulder-neck junction.

I did the same as the others before Peterson came out with 6x47 brass
I turned my necks down, then just used a Forster FL sizing die.
Just to make sure, then used a mandrel to push anything out, then re-turned
them to catch any high spots near the shoulder neck junction. They are pretty now.

I’ve been reading the Peterson brass has thicker necks. If this is true, I don’t think I want it for my .272 neck chamber.

will try some tonight......snowing like crazy 14 inches on the ground supposed to snow through the night ...........will give me something to do

I would wait until you have the gun in hand. You want to size the neck down until a bolt striped of the firing pin assembly and ejector will just close on the brass with slight resistance at the bottom of the bolt travel. This ensures you get a good snug fit and don't stretch your brass or have issues with light primer strikes with the first loads.

+1 on just buying Peterson 6x47 brass. Excellent quality! I use a 275 neck chamber with it.

With Lapua, I use a 273 neck. Sizing Lapua brass is easy, just lube and run it (slowly) through a FL Forster die. Done!

I’m glad Peterson Brass is on the market, have some in .243 and 6.5 Creedmoor and it is nice brass. If you want to compare it to Lapua for looks, sometime take the mirror off your Teslong borscope and run it down to the flashole on both brands and compare.

I may be a little late to the party on this one, but I was very nervous about sizing my 6.5x47 lapua brass down to 6 because all I had was a forster FL. I was planning on buying Peterson brass, but there was none in stock. I had read a lot about how I will ruin cases and how necking down straight to 6 leaves a big "bell" at the case mouth. But none of this turned out to be the case. I sized 50 pieces of 6.5 down to 6 without a single flaw. All cases were even and consistent (measured with calipers). I chamfered all the 6.5 cases first, lubed with imperial sizing wax (I did put a very small amount on a q tip and applied inside the neck of the case. Then I ran it through one time and came out perfect.
