6mm bra

saw where a person used a 1/12 twist barrel and 88 grain i belive bullets to set a 600 yard record.speed was at 3200 fps.any thoughts on this combination

I’m shooting a 6br w/an 80GR Bullet (12 twist krieger) at around 3270 FPS. It’s incredibly accurate at 400 yards.

I'm shooting the 75 gr. V-Max at 3280fps in my 9 twist BRA. It is not a hot load at all. It's my groundhog and crow rifle and what little I have shot it on paper out to 400yds. it is really accurate.
An 88gr. bullet in a 12 twist seems a little heavy for that twist to me.

That 1.07 inch group David Strickland shot was a feat back in 2005! We were all experimenting on what worked the best at 600 yards back then. Some even shot 80g Flat based bullets, different calibers, twists, etc. . Those 80, 88, and even 95g VLDs may shoot good in perfect conditions at 600. Hardly ever is a match day “Perfect”. A puff of wind will easily give you a 4-5 inch group and you are done! Dont compare what won and set records years ago to what we have learned and what it take to win aggs. and set records today. If you are not shooting something on a BR case, 7.5-8 twist barrel, 103-108g bullets, dont expect to be in the winners circle these days.

I re-read my post and hope it did not sound intimidating to try 600 yards. What I am trying to say, is: you can now enter the sport on an equal playing field by using what has proven to win over the past few years I mentioned above. In 2005 we were just guessing what might work best. You can learn from our mistakes back then and have the luxury of starting with equipment fully capable of winning! Many new shooters have a passion and desire to put in the time to learn their equipment and tune their rifle/load. Many times they come out and beat the seasoned shooters! Its anyones game these days, dont be the least intimidated. I started long range benchrest in 2004. I honestly did not believe I would ever be able to hang with the seasoned shooters. I watched the best shooters and what they used and learned quickly. I loved the sport then and still do! Come on out and give it a try!

You are exactly right!!

^^^^^^^^^^^^^Spot on Mr. Hall....I'm one of those that will test and retest while gaining BR experience.
Read my manuals in the 70s-80s (pre-internet) but for the best BR info I do come here, thx to all
Kind of on topic, if your getting 3270-80 with the 80-90 gr. class, what is the hi end for 105-108 gr. in 6BRA?
I'm currently running around 2875 for my best node with 108s....shooting 300yd. and moving to 600, no desire to go higher until possibly later when shooting 1K ....the higher nodes prevail maybe at 1K?

With a custom action (BAT) you usually find accuracy with 103-105 class at 2920-2970 range. I have found a load with one barrel recently at 2880fps. And I have had a couple barrels came in on the high end of 3010fps and will not shoot good at a lower velosity. I dont try to shoot for that high of velosity, but those barrels shoot there. It take a lot of work and experimenting with your particular barrel to see what it likes. Good luck and Be safe!
