Rail gun question

I have read on several forums where shooter discussed bedding the action directly to the rail top.
All the rails I have seen have a barrel block to mount the barreled action to the rail.
Has the action bedded to the rail not worked out?

I havent seen an action connected to the top since the stolle polar days in the 90’s. Most have at least a 1/2” gap. We use 1.450” barrels now- i dont want that free swinging from my action

The key with railgun barrel blocks is getting the right amount of torque on the bolts. Too much, and it won’t shoot, and too little and the barrel moves around between shots. Somewhere between 30-60 inch pounds should work. Start low and increase if necessary.

One more key, make sure you tighten your block bolts evenly, i.e., the block has the same gap at each corners (using a caliper to measure).

With my 1.250 barrel, anything over 50 inch pounds make a big difference. 30-35 looks good, I have not explored the lower limit yet..... that is next.

I shot a ladder test with my dasher....... actually several ladders just to see how/if differences in torque would show up.
With my 1.250 barrel, anything over 50 inch pounds make a big difference. 30-35 looks good, I have not explored the lower limit yet..... that is next.

The lighter the better. When the barrel gets hot after shooting 5 rounds as fast as you can, you want the lightest tension?

Mulligan said it best. You have to test your setup to see what works. These numbers can be different depending on the style of barrel block.
