NRA Statement: "Today, the NRA announced a restructuring plan that positions us for the long-term and ensures our continued success as the nation’s leading advocate for constitutional freedom – free from the toxic political environment of New York.

The plan can be summed up quite simply: We are DUMPING New York, and we are pursuing plans to reincorporate the NRA in Texas.

To facilitate the strategic plan and restructuring, the NRA and one of its subsidiaries have filed voluntary chapter 11 petitions in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Texas, Dallas Division."

Article I read said membership would not be affected. All would continue as is. One could hope a little better organization would emerge. When people like Oliver and Tom walk away something is wrong. Maybe our Texas friends can help.

Never understood why NRA would pay NY taxes and all that goes with that by being in NY.
Lot of other states to choose from.. Sad we even have to have an organization to defend 2A.. 2A is law.. and that should be enough..

Personally, I would like to know just exactly how much Wayne has been compensated, and what expenses and perks he has been given, along with any retirement, and provision for a golden parachute. Also, how much NRA money has been spent to keep himself in his position? From what I have heard, this has gotten entirely out of hand.

After the fiasco with management ( a bunch of good ones had to leave and some rotten apples stayed) I started my focus on state level organizations. I am a Life Member of the NRA but my financial contributions are now directed to the Texas State Rifle Association. Hope the NRA can clean their act up.

Being a 501(c)(3), they wouldn’t necessarily pay taxes in NY. I can understand why they would be wanting to leave NY. Why they didn’t do that years ago is beyond me,

to hobnob with the rich you have to look the part.
They'd look at me like I was tralior trash....I Just do not fit in that part of business.

^^^ All of this and more is why I have never chosen to join the NRA. I can respect that they are the largest organization protecting 2A rights, until they don't. I cannot abide the 20+ "scare" letters that I get in the mail saying "JOIN NOW OR YOUR RIGHTS WILL BE LOST FOREVER" or "THEY ARE GOING TO TAKE AWAY YOUR GUNS TOMORROW UNLESS...". I don't understand the whole free (made in China, low-dollar) gift to join up - if you have an organization that I am willing to support, politely ask for my support and you'll get it.

The main reason I don't join? Lack of transparency. I want to know how much of my dollar gets spent actually doing what the organization says it does, and how much goes to "administrative costs" like suits and salaries and travel and so forth. No look at the books means I will never contribute.

Bankrupt doesn't mean insolvent. Just using bankruptcy laws to reorganize. Personally, I hope WLP is part of the reorganization.

I for one am glad and will remain a member of the NRA, as I have for decades. But they should have moved out of N.Y. years ago and made some changes, for the better, in management. Hopefully it will improve and do and keep guarding our Amendment Rights.

Texas makes sense now for sure, but historically NY also made good sense because that was at or near the nation’s gun-making factories and craftsmen. They are a 501(c)(4) though, permitted to lobby. Unlike a (c)(3) donations to them are not tax deductible, as they would be to a church, for example.
