Delaware? Bad choice, old boy.

"Delaware – a state with a population reaching nearly one million – has a very low gun ownership rate of 5.2%. Rhode Island isn’t far behind with a rate of 5.8% across over 1 million residents. These are the only two states with gun ownership rates that fall below 10%."

Interesting, California #3 in the nation. Texas #1, with Florida beating CA by 1000 registered firearms.
Total guns in the state, sure, but as % of population, not so impressive. Adjusted for population: #1 Alaska, #2 Arkansas, #3 Idaho.

However "Registered Firearms" seems impossible. Very few firearms in the US are "registered" at either the federal or state level, but the web site does not explain what they mean by "registered". Perhaps they are only counting guns which have been purchased (not registered) since background checks have been in effect?

I was thinking in terms of (rr2030 mimics Dr. Evil 's open quotes in the air) " registered firearms" all in a pile, CA would beat 47 states.

Due to the contributions and selfless efforts made by the numerous gangs in LA and SF, Oakland etc, I bet CA is #1 in unregistered firearms.

Don’t forget the 9% State income tax! I finally got out and moved to Texas!

Welcome back; let's hear more of that 6.5x47 you have planned!

-Mac
I have TWO 6.5 x 47 projects in the works. One is a bolt gun using a Howa action. I just need to get a barrel for it. I have two smiths that have experience with the Howa's metric threads. I may use a Vortex scope I already have or get another. Other than a scope base and rings, not much left to do here.

The second is an AR-10(b), the "b" being the original AR-10 from Armaliite using proprietary mags and upper receiver not interchangeable with the common DPMS style. Somewhat surprisingly, Krieger chambers AR-10 barrels in 6.5 x 47. I have many parts already, including a Match Geiselle trigger. A few more parts and it too will come together. Costs for both will determine how quickly I get these done. I am a little concerned about gas tuning with the 6.5 x 47, since there is little info about it used in an AR-10. I also am hopeful the semi-auto does not mutilate my Lapua brass too badly. I use Forster FL dies and will have one honed to suit the 6.5 x 47 chamber for the AR-10 (and another for the Howa barrel).

The AR-10 will be a tank, but that is OK, because I want to see how well I can make an AR-10 shoot. I did the same with my first AR-15, and it really shoots very well. Hopefully, the AR-10 and Howa will deliver as well. Will update as things proceed.

Best wishes to you Phil. If you need shooter resources in NV, I'm sure there are at least a few forum members here who are in your area. We're keeping you and your wife in our non-denominational prayers (the only kind approved in California by the socialist/elite in charge there) in this challenging transition, but it will be worth it.

The battle for California has indeed been lost. The war for liberty in the US is underway. NV and AZ need to return to red, or the entire far west political structure has fallen to the lunacy of liberalism. Like cancer, rust, termites, and mold, it's ever creeping. Misery loves company!

Back to NV: Check out the Palomino range if you haven't already: https://palominogunclub.org/

And something I heard when we contemplated a move like yours: "Reno is certainly not hell, but it's close enough to see Sparks."
Hi. I have checked out the Palomino gun club. It interests me. Bit of a drive from where I am at, but close enough. Mostly interested in the steel practice sessions. Not really a competitor, but who knows, I might give it a try.

Thank you,

Phil

I am stuck here for now and my friends are slowly retiring and leaving because they can't afford the cost.
How in the hell you ask...$130K The BS just never stops. You could buy a really nice travel trailer for $10-$20K which is still ridiculous but not as outrageous. Consider also the $650K proposal for permanent housing per unit. Unbelievable.View attachment 1218787View attachment 1218788 ?
i could build em and ship em out there to them for only 100K- they would get heck of a deal.--- lol

So you're going full Armalite, nice!

I'll caution you now, the term AR-10 is thrown around so much, that when you order the barrel be SURE to request the Armalite pattern if you're reusing your Armalite bolt. I had 'heard' that you can run either dpms/knights or Armalite in either design as long as you use the same bolt/barrel extension design. I might be wrong on that though.

Gas system I can give a recommendation. I love my DPMS pattern 6.5 creed; but if I could change one thing it's that the brass gets best up excessively.

A piece of soft velcro side stuck on the shell deflector fixed the body dents; polishing the feed ramps fixed the case neck scratches; and an adjustable gas block turned down to just let the bolt lock open on an empty mag was the last. Do t want to mess with adjustable gas blocks; get your gas port drilled rifle length +2" and buy a +2" gas tube from white oak armament. Again caution there, as the Armalite ar-10 and dpms have different length tubes, at least so my memory serves. White oak will custom make you a gad tube for less than most off-the-shelf suppliers.

Bonus to Armalite, the bolts typically have better firing pin fitment; dpms pattern bolts are sloppy enough that I now recommend going straight to JP; or at least get a toolcraft or rubber city armory and give yourself a chance.

Gotta shoot one of their varmint silhouette matches. They're a hoot!

Hi Mac,

Thanks for your comments. And yes, I am well aware of requesting the Armalite pattern. I got the bolt carrier assembly some years ago, from Armalite directly. It will go to the barrel maker to ensure proper fitment.

I used a JP Rifles non-adjustable gas block on my AR-15 build. I liked it. Might do that again. Same with their round handguard. I do not need (or want) Picatinny rails everywhere.

Regarding the brass getting beat up, I will try the velcro idea or something similar, as well as polished feed ramps. I am undecided on a fixed or adjustable gas block. Good info on White Oak gas tubes.

One thing I have to check is max OAL that will fit into the Armalite mags. I really do not know what the max length is, so will likely load up some with bullets of my choice to see if they will fit. From what the 6.5 x 47 OAL length often is vs what the 308 (originally for AR-10), the 6.5 should be OK in the AR.

Thanks.

Phil
