6XC vs 250 Savage / 22-250?

Love it when an old thread comes alive! As an avid 6XC fan glad to see guys still shooting her. Was told the 6 Creed knocked if off the stool but I see that’s not the case. Just shot my 6XC the other day @ 1,000 yards. Fun to shoot and nice with minimal recoil. As said it’s a fun round and easy to get her to shoot no mater what bullet run run. Got to love the little 6.

6xc has the front end of a 6br. 300 thou neck and 30 degree shoulder.

It was specifically designed to shoot long, high bc bullets from magazine length in standard short action rifles without the base of the bullet getting into the donut.
@ Changling,..
And made with,.. a smidgeon of, Body Taper to feed well and the 30* shoulder, being set back, to obtain a little longer Neck, THEREFORE, it keeps, the Burning Powders "Turbulence Point", BACK inside, the Case FURTHER than say, a .243 Win., so it's NOT "torching" the Throat as much ! The Case allows, GOOD case capacity to allow the USE, of Colder Burning,. VhitaVouri N-160 and N-165 and ALL these "attributes" allow for LONGER, Accurate, Barrel Life !
IF more, Power / Velocity needed, check out, the 6 mm SLR. Both of these Cartridges, REPLACE "duplicate", the .243 Win ( use wise ) and have ABOUT, 50% more useful, Barrel Life ! Hope this, Helps !
I credit, David Tubb as the OFFICIAL and BEST ,.. "end USER" if not,.. the actual designer !
I'm gonna build, my next Varmint Rifle, using, a L-H Rem 700, short Action and the 6XC case with, a 1-12 Twist to shoot 55's to 80 grain, Bullets. YUP,. they ARE that,.. GOOD !

I have 50 freebore 6xc Remington 700 prefits in stock. Perfect for this application.

I just received one of these today. I ran a couple of patches through and in went the borescope. I must say, the workmanship is Top Shelf! Much better than the RemAge barrel it will be replacing.

Hoot

I keep trying to tell them. :)

I brush each one to make sure they are clean before I send them out. Fit and finish in the barreling is quite good.

Researched it's lineage when I got into reloading the little Savage for use in the contender. It is recommended to keep it around 39OOO psi for the break action.
It was introduced as the first to reach 3000 FPS but only loaded with the 87 gr. bullet.
Shooters soon found it's effectiveness to be with 100 gr. but the introduction was maintained with 87 gr. so the velocity could be heralded.
Blown out to .308 for the 300 Savage and wildcatted for a long time with 22 caliber.
In '63 Browning set a precedent by manufacturing a rifle without ammunition (see Wikipedia)
My buddy is big on the 22-250 and I find that brass to be the most suitable for conversion to 250-3000 use.
In the contender, the 250 Savage just feels right!
Thanks,
Jimmy
