Pet peeves

This comes under the heading of what are they thinking? Spandex attired bike riders on roads that have no shoulder, a ditch or embankment on both sides, during rush hour. These are mostly college educated dweebs that prove the corollary, the higher the education, the less common sense.

“That's his Cadillac!”

A pet peeve of mine;

I hear a lot of put-downs about particular brands and/or types both on internet forums and also at the range and in the gun stores. I mean said right to the owner of some gun of which the one giving the critique does not approve. Now it's one thing if someone asks advice and you say “I wouldn't recommend that brand because...” but when someone has weighed all their options, considered their budget and made their choice, what good does it do to tell them what they have is no good?

My daughter in law has a Ruger 380. She loves it for CCW, and so my wife wanted to get one based on her recommendation (wife already has a P365). So she bought one. First day at the range with it a guy tells her that thing is a POS and I'd get rid of it tomorrow. Trade it in on something halfway decent, something that doesn't say Ruger on the slide! (This as the gun was functioning flawlessly and she was putting rounds into a pretty respectable group at 7 yards).

It reminds me of way back when I was a dealership auto mechanic right after high school. A customer brought in a, I think it was a Chevette if I remember correctly, with a problem. Another young mechanic about my age said to the customer “I would walk before I would own one of those pieces of s$*#t!”

Well the service manager told us a short time later “Never make fun of someone's car. For whatever the reasons, that's what he chose to own and he goes to work to feed his family and he pays for that car. Maybe that's what he can afford. To him, that's his Cadillac.”

Pedestrians hate cars, cars hate pedestrians, and EVERYONE hates bicycles.....

People that come to the range to sight in their rifles and don't bring a spotting scope so they can see the bullet holes and want the range to go cold after every shot. And on top of that they're usually in absolutely no rush at all to go walk to their target to look.
And they go down there with a couple buddies who upon reaching the target start discussing how far to move the scope on their one shot groups.

Guys that don't want to get their "washed every week, heavily financed, never see anything but pavement 60k 4WD pickups and 80k SUVs dirty, by driving down the range to hang targets. They leisurely walk 200 or 300 yards while ten shooters stand around waiting or they drive down and park fifty yards from the backers so they don't have to go in the dirt. Fortunately, they only show up a few weeks before the fall hunting seasons.

Oh boy, I get to do another one!

In our state we are required by law to pass bicycles with at least three feet between them and us. Which means you can't pass them until there is no oncoming traffic, and that means you can be behind them for quite some time.

I have nothing against bike riders. Whether they are riding instead of driving to save the environment or because they lost their driver's license, hey good for them they're still out there doing their thing.

In fact I have put many, many miles on road bicycles over the years.

But my pet peeve is this; you have a line of cars going 12 mph behind a bicyclist, waiting patiently to pass, one at a time as traffic allows. Finally everybody gets around the slowpoke but then there's a red light. Now, rather than stop at his place in line in traffic like he's supposed to, what does he do? He rides past all the stopped cars on their right side, barely able to squeak by...all the cars that so courteously waited to be able to get around him with a safe comfortable distance... and he goes right up to the front of the line ( and usually goes on through the red light) so now we all have to pass him all over again when the light turns green. And if you are now impatient and pass with a little less than his required-by-law three feet he hits your car with his fist and yells MOVE OVER!!!

My pet peeve?

Advertisements for hearing aids.

After boring deep down into the fine print, the really amazing price is for only one hearing aid.

After 21 years on diesel submarines (along with a fair amount of gunfire) {1960's, 70's, & 80's}........ hearing protection? What?? Don't need no stinkin' hearing protection. Throw in 10 years driving diesel farm tractors. Another 20 years of driving semi-trucks and listening to diesels for 24 hrs a day from the time you leave until you get back.

Yeah, both ears could use hearing aids.
