Case Lube

Any opinions on the best case lube for full length sizing ?

I am currently using Lyman Kwik Case Lube but have had several close calls with cases getting nearly jammed in the die. I then spray a bit more and get a dimple on the shoulder - a sign of excessive lube. My cases are put in a plastic food container and sprayed, rolled around a bit then left for 1-2 minutes.

Until a few weeks ago, I was using Hornady One Shot lube but ran out and it wasn't in supply when I needed to buy a replacement so bought the Lyman.

My dies are very clean, no issues with them, as are the cases before they're resized.

What do you think ? Go back to the Hornady One Shot spray lube or is there something better out there ?

Thanks
Martin
Buy a bottle of pure lanolin, some 99% isopropyl alcohol, mix in a spray bottle 4-5 parts alcohol to one part lanolin , thank me later.....

Hornady Unique & Imperial size wax = mink oil...in other words slightly differing mixtures of lanolin or other animal oils and paraffin or carnuba wax. You can pay $8 a tub for that stuff, or buy a can of KIWI mink oil and never tell the difference.

I prefere the mink oil because it is slightly less goopy than the Hornady Unique.

The Forster High Pressure appears to be straight liquid lanolin.

In experimenting to duplicate Dillons formula...I settled on a ratio of 1 part to 12 of liquid lanolin to HEET in the red bottle (99%+ Isopropyl Alchohol). I use this for bulk sizing of 223 and 308.

I put 100 cases or so into a gallon zip-loc bag with 5 pumps of the lube and work them through my hands until all are coated, then pour them out into a stainless steel bowl till the alchohol flashes off.

One of the funniest threads I've read, all great advice but OP Martin52 LOLing 10 years later.
On subject I have not found a better replacement for rcbs but may have to give imperial a try.

I used RCBS for decades and recently tried Imperial. I loaded up ammo for three matches with it. I could never get the feel of applying it quickly and had issues with getting it in the case mouth....which made powder jam up in the funnel and create a mess in more than one occasion.

So I went back to RCBS. No issues with lube in the case mouth, and better consistency when resizing--I measure every shoulder when sizing for my competition rifles.

I have no doubt Imperial is excellent, but it is just too slow for me to apply correctly vs the RCBS. I have thought of using Imperial on a case lube pad vs using my fingers.

How in the world are you getting the Imperial in the case mouth? You literally just barely touch the lube with a finger and spread it on the case. Imagine running the tip of your finger across a stick of chapstick and smearing that around the base and shoulder of a case (which works by the way).

How are you doing it?

I used to use the RCBS Pad and size lube years ago, now for rifle I use Imperial, but I have started using spray size lube on Bottle Neck Pistol cases where no Carbide dies are available or would work. Just got some of the Franklin Armory spray, but have not used it yet.

I use Ballistol for sizing lube. Works great!

I accidentally bought a can of the liquid (meant to order the spray can), and simply use the ballistol liquid on my RCBS lube pad... it works very well! much thinner than the RCBS lube, so it's not such a PITA to work with.

Wipes right out of the dies, and will not gum up. You can leave the stuff in the die to act as a rust preventative when you're done sizing too!
I ran out of Hornady one shoot and bought some Ballistol...It works great and will not be going back to one shoot. Lightly spray your case and they become very slick.

and it does wipe off very easy...

Yup, and thanks for all the replies, got it sorted, but all these comments 10 years on and you got me thinking about it again....!

So I take a spoon and dip it in the Imperial........................

Not really. I wipe my finger in the can and then spin the case between my thumb and forefinger. That is still too much............

Pure coconut oil. I put a few drops on my hands and rub them together to get get my hands coated. Grab a pile of brass (have done up to 300 cases at once) run them through my hands a few times to put a light coating on the brass. Never a stuck case, probably some of the best sizing consistency I have had. Equal or better than imperial and a lot quicker. When done lay on a dry towel, spray with alchohol, and roll dry. Done.

RCBS Case Slick is amazing! I mainly use Imperial but for hard to size cases like LC 30.06 brass I use Case Slick. It is expensive when you consider it is 85% solvent but it cuts the effort in half!

Fair enough. I actually use a nylon brush with a tiny bit of lube on it to brush out the necks.

Works for me. I love the smell too but then again people say I’m weird.
