Mirage Shields

I have never used one before. However I now think it is long over due. I shot a 20 round group a few days ago using the 223 Rem that Terry made for me. (Group was .84" for all 20 if I remember correctly.) Anyway I had a nice single one five shot group and as the barrel heated up it started growing. I don't think it was from the barrel heating up as much as it was from the mirage I was experiencing. As a result I believe it is time for me to buy a mirage shield or two in order to help my shooting.

Question. Who do you all buy your shields from?

Thanks,

Steve

I wrap my barrels with a nomex sleeve and it works great! One theory is that it is a consistent weight on the barrel rather than taking a mirage shield on and off the rifle which changes harmonics. Think of a tuner (your moving a weight forward and back). Another reason is that it keeps it warm throughout the day rather than letting it cool after a match and again warming it up on the next match. I have noticed less firecracking and have reason to believe it actually makes the barrel last longer. The only thing I don’t like is that it is kinda ugly.
