Shooters World Powders

Has anyone used any of their powders long enough to form an opinion of it/them .What cartridges did you use it for and how happy were you with their performance? Would you continue to use it for its intended purpose or would you use something else ?

One of our regular long range competitor's tried 062 in his .308 Palma rifle with good results. Same burn rate as Varget. He went with mid-range loads to start and even at the lower load level had no problem making good hits at 1000. When Powder Valley has some more I intend to try some as well.

So far, I have used the Precision Rifle powder in 7.62x54R, and the Ultimate Pistol powder in 7.62x25 and .38 special. I have found them to meter well, be clean burning, and a great value. Be warned, the Ultimate Pistol powder is very fine! Had to do some work to my Lee powder measure to stop the leaking around the edges. A few minutes to polish the mating surfaces, a good cleaning, and absolutely no more leaking.

The muzzle flash from my M-44 is still there, just doesn't look like a NASA launch anymore. Almost done working up a load and the rifle has never shot tighter groups. Pretty happy with the performance in a 75 year-old surplus rifle.

I only got enough to test when I placed my last order, but will certainly be ordering more in the near future.
Take your time working up loads. Data is available on their powders for common calibers, but others will require you to use your best judgement to develop a working and safe load.

Thanks guys!!! I, like a lot of people want Varget and Precision is very close to it in their line . Midsouth said that you can back order it, which I did , and received it 2weeks after I ordered it which I didn’t think was bad. If it works WELL the fact that it’s cheaper is a big plus!

So SW Precision is very very close to Varget.
How about SW Match Rifle? Some of their web pages say its similar to RL15.
I shoot a 6 BRA with 105-108 gr bullets in 600/1000 yd benchrest.
Would both Match Rifle and Precision most likely create a good load? Or is Match Rifle too fast for heavy BRA bullets?

I tried both with Alpha brass, CCI450, Berger 109. Precision got 2920 with 33.8 gr, Varget got the same with 34.2 gr. It seems like Precision might run a little cooler than Varget, but thats just subjective, no real data either way.

Tanker.... how was the performance comparison ? Since Varget is impossible to get, would you go with Precision?

Accuracy was the same with either. The gun is back at the smith for a new barrel. I will play around with jump and see what difference it makes. I still have a couple of pounds of Varget, but just got 8 pounds of SWP this week.

Anyone that uses either H or IMR 4350, have any comparison with them and the SWP 4350 ?
I have a pound of SW4350 to try, but haven't got around to it yet unfortunately. My stock of IMR-4350, the favorite of 3 of my rifles, is pretty solid still so I haven't felt the urgency yet.

I also have Long Rifle and Precision, which I picked up to fill in between IMR4350 and IMR-4064. Both of these SW powders seem to work pretty well in my 22BR (90gn bullets) and my 6.5x47 (144gn bullets). Haven't done a full work up in either but both shoot 1" at 300 yards right out of the gate, which means they aren't half bad. I've tried powders that shoot much worse and the favorite powders only shoot smaller when in tune.

Was thinking about ordering some SW4350 from Midsouth on backorder. Does anyone know if Midsouth charges your credit card for a back order or do they charge once it ships?

Thanks.

I'll do that sometime in December as part of a series of tests I'm running in a long-throat 7-08 F rifle with the 160gn Sierra TMK looking at Reach-compliant powders for us folks in the UK. (We've lost many Hodgdon and IMR powders because of an EC health & safety program on chemicals called Reach.)

Both SO-65 (SW Long Rifle) and SO-70 (SW-4350) will be tried as two out of around 15 different powders with burning rates in the general 4350 area.

I know this was a long time ago... but did you ever get around to this test and/or documenting results? I'm specifically interested in how SW long rifle performed
