JLK Bullets are back

Turbulent Turtle

F-TR competitor
When Swampy sadly passed away a while back, it seemed like JLK bullets had reached the end of the line. I started looking at alternatives and for a while I tried the Hornady 230gr A-Tips out of my F-TR rifle. It was not a success, to say the least. Every time I shot, it was a roll of the dice on what would come up on the target. My scores suffered greatly, but I wanted to give them a real try. For TSRA LR last month, I loaded my match ammo with my remaining A-Tips and gave them one last chance. The Saturday matches were more of the same roulette wheel results, but on Sunday, things changed a bit, for some reason, and I actually won the last match of TSRA Long Range in nasty switching winds with a 197-something. I thought I had finally found the holy grail of loads for the A-Tips in my rifle.

Fast forward 2 weeks and I had just enough loaded A-tips for the next local match where I discovered that the random placement generator I thought had left, came back with a vengeance, the fiend. I was out of A-tips, finally...

As luck would have it, I found a shipment of Swampy's 210gr JLKLBT in my garage, where I had stored an overflow and forgotten about it. (Age; I can hide my own Easter eggs.) Thankfully, I had written down the exact specs of my last batch of match ammo with these bullets in my rifle notebook. So I loaded up 200 rounds for this month's TSRA Mid-Range match. It was like night and day, like someone had thrown a switch or something. It was fun again, but I was still sad that I had the last batch of JLKs produced and once gone, they were gone.

Come to find out that JLK bullets are back. Currently they are only making the 224, 6mm, and 6.5mm but I reached out to Ed Faber, I'm guessing the new owner of JLK bullets, and he is planning on making the 210 JLKLBT in the near future. I hope to have enough JLKs to tide me over until they become available from Ed.

Happy you found those Denys! You shot great under some crazy conditions. You for sure had great waterline and looked like you were really enjoying yourself again! Awesome to see that... was fun running targets and sharing the shooting line with you.

Thanks Johnny,

I really had a great time at TSRA MR. It was a lot more fun for me when the bullets go where you expect them to. I also enjoyed shooting/pulling with you as well, and I thought you did great.

I also had a great time the day before, shooting/pulling with Robert A. That's when I actually started the believe the bullets were really making a difference.

JLK were the best bullets I ever shot for consistency of flight. Glad to see someone took over the operation and is building those fine bullets again. The 180 long boat tail was an awesome bullet!!
True enough and I did very well with those (oh, sorry, I'm replying to Warren), them 180s. I still have some in fact, but my more recent barrels are all twisted for the 210s.

:)

I'm sure you meant to say "en français." In French, they would not capitalize it and the cedilla is de rigueur. So to speak. German or Spanish would also work. My Latin is extremely rusty.

I don't know Denys, I think you ought to stick with those A-Tips. Maybe seat them a little deeper or something. ;)

Seriously though, you shot quite well. It's always nice when your scores can immediately improve with a simple change.
