Barrel life

Went to the range yesterday had the worst day in a long time. Usually the gun I was using shoots holes in holes not yesterday I have a .223 savage with a Bartlein heavy target 1-7.7 twist shooting 80.5 Bergers at 200 can shoot holes in dimes but the barrel has about 1500 rounds through it was going to order another. Anyone have an estimate on how many rounds should expect to get
Thanks for the help guys

If it is the same load as you always use, it may be time to check the ogive to lands distance, there may be a significant difference from the new barrel. If there is, it is time to retune the load.

In an 8 twist 223, I had, I put >3000 rounds on it and had to retune the load several times. I do this at cleaning time every 100-200 rounds.

It did not lose accuracy in the time that I owned it.

What does the bore look like? Carbon ring?
Also, Im in suthern IN E of you and wind has been UGLY the last two weeks.....any chance that may have opened things up substantially? Whose flags are you using?

I think if you question a .223 barrel at only 1500 rounds, you need to question other things. Like the complete rig, conditions, shooting over flags or not, etc. I think that barrel is like Doc Holiday, " I'm in my prime ".

Same load but it is a different lot so yes I need to check the ogive

I had a 223 T/C barrel standard twist. I used it for Prairie Dogs, for several years and it had at least 5000 rounds through it and it still shot a three quarter inch group. It started out three eights inch and less groups. Of course I never loaded my shells to try to get every bit of speed out of them, usually just under max.

Your barrel life should depend a lot on velocity and since you’re shooting 80 grainers you should still have a lot of life left. If you were shooting high velocities with some 55 grain or lighter bullets then you might be nearing the end.

I have a pacnor 223r that I have 11,400 rounds thru and it will still put 10 shots inside of a nickle at 100 yards. 50 grain v-max at 3300 fps. Most of my 223's last about 7500 rounds.

Are the groups round or strung vertically or horizontally? If the are strung horizontal or vertical I would check all the scope mounting screws. If they are round check to make sure the barrel is tight. In fact check the barrel any way.

My advice is get a $50 Teslong borescope on Amazon and inspect the chamber and bore. You may have either a carbon ring that has formed in the freebore or an accumulation of copper in the bore. 1,500 rounds should not shoot out any barrel, even if you did rapid fire and used hot loads.

Never shot anything less than a 69 smk almost all where 80.5 Berger's running 24.5 gr target 2485 RL-15 24 gr 2754 and 23.5 W-748 2745 so speeds are not bad wind was from my back it was a little breezy

Shot the same set up and was hitting dimes consistently

Bore looks good but I did give it a good cleaning and only shot 30 rnds

Try again on another day before making any decisions. See if you get the same results.
That's exactly what I am going to do but l might go a head and order another barrel just because I really like the Bartline. Might as well get one on the way now it weather to go with the 1-7 or 1-6 or6.5 as the 1-6s twist will be a longer lead time and the lightest I shoot any more is 73 gr
