Whidden 6 Dasher Hydroform die

Has anyone used the Whidden Hydroform die? thinking of buying one. I have 300 pieces to form for now. I thought about sending off and letting someone form them but, you can buy the die then sell it if you want and come out a lot better I believe. If anyone has a 6 dasher hydorform they will let me rent, hey I'm game.

Just send it to DJ. Save yourself the price of the Die, Lots of time, and get match quality formed brass the first time. Worth the price and you can't beat the service. Just one mans opinion.

You’re correct in theory. But, it’s easy to half ass it and end up with sub par brass, it’s a lot of work to do it correctly, I would suggest looking into buying a Benchsource die rather than Whidden. I’m not sure if David is still producing them or not but it would be worth a try. I know nothing about your personal reloading skills, timeline or attention to detail but unless you’re confident in your abilities, call DJ’s or Hunts long range and just purchase brass ready to go and concentrate on other nuances than hydroforming. No disrespect, just free advice.

my thought process is if I send my stuff to dj's, it is 180 bucks..... I buy the die for 170, and I can do as many as I want. I think dj does a phenomenal job, it isn't about that, its about learning the art. While I consider myself always learning, I have been reloading for many years. I just bought my first br rifle and I was trying to be efficient as possible.

Then I’d go for it. It’s rewarding to figure it out yourself. I’d definitely suggest you call benchsource to see about they’re die. I’ve not used a Whidden hydro die so I can’t say much about it but the regular dies didn’t impress me. The Hornady works well but it‘s way too easy to bend the stem you have to hit.

Make sure you buy a few spare plungers and seals when you order the die....

you use a spent primer and shoulders will be rounded

Seems crazy time consuming to seat a used primer in every piece of brass. Do the rounded shoulder corners effect case volume? Do your load development in the rounded shoulder corner cases work with out being tweeted in the fired sharp corner cases?

I hate the thought of hammering away on my press and potentially leaking water all over it just to get my brass hydroformed. Maybe a backup press to go along with the die would help convince me to form my own. Hunts Long Range is also another source for hydro formed brass.
