Does this look like a bore of unfired takeoff barrel to you?

I recently bought a Savage take off barrel that was advertised as unfired be the seller. Just got a borescope and took video of the bore. Never used borescope before and I am no barrel expert. But this doesn't look good to me at all. In fact, I ran the borescope in my 7x57 DWM Mauser that is over 100 years old and lands look sharper. I uploaded video clip on youtube. Please let me know what you think.

Is it the lighting or is there lots of black stuff in the 'corners' of the grooves in the throat area?

Yep that looks like it could be a new take off or close to it. I did see some copper in the bore but the factory does proof the rifle.

For a Savage barrel that looks great. 20+ years ago we laughed at people online that would start talking about how fantastic Savage barrels were. Remington's were even worse. CHF barrels are the best thing that has happened to factory barrels.

I tend to look for the start of throat erosion. Guess I never developed the expertise to judge sharpness of lands, even though I see that quoted often on used rifles. Even when the throat is gone and there is firecracking down the bore for several inches, the lands look sharp to me (where they are present).

Looks like a typical Savage factory barrel, it will probably surprise you how "well" it shoots tho. "Well" being open for interpretation depending on your expectations. I get 1/2" groups out of my 3 savage factory barrels with handloads on a regular basis. Good enough to bust a PD in the noggin.

Looks like a typical new Savage barrels. I'm never going to borescope one of my factory Savage barrels. I just had a fv .223 new take off thread for a brake for prairie dog shooting and banging steel. I'll bet I can get it to shoot 1/2 moa. My other 2 do. No bore scoping Savage barrels for me...

Not sure if it’s zero rounds, but it looks new.... is it a chrome-moly barrel? There appears to be spots of rust. I would address that.

I've seen many new barrels looking the same. Remember you are going to have to shoot at least 100 rounds down that barrel to break it in. It will never look like a hand lapped barrel from custom barrel makers, but being a Savage. I bet it will shoot pretty good.

I did borescope brand spankin' new FV12 barrels (2) and was sorely disappointed in what I saw, BUT they still shoot sub MOA on a regular basis.
