Where to start/ no consistency on target

Savage Axis / 300 bk Leupold scope new AAC suppressor.
Ammo Hornady 110 gr vmax.
Tried to sight in rifle today at 100 yds and every time I made an adjustment it was way to far and now near what I clicked. Scope is 1/4 moa. Each shot I would adjust from point of impact and it would alarmist double the distance. Then I went 1/2 way and basically same thing.
I’m out of ammo and pretty sure bullet if not hitting suppressor. Scope mounts feels tight. So the WiFi’s where do I start to find out problem?

Here's where I would start. Without supressor and perhaps at 50 yds from a very stable rest/position shoot a group of 5. If it groups, adjust scope to center group. If it grouped and then doesn't group or doesn't center it seems to be your scope. Either way you know something. If it groups and centers then try with your suppressor on. The zero will likely move, but if it now doesn't group you know more. If you cannot get it to group at the beginning, its something else and/or your scope/suppressor. Until you can get it to group 5 shots with minimal "other things" no reason to chase the tail. Trying to "zero" or "center" 5 in groups one shot at a time will make you consider a different hobby.

Is it a 30 cal suppressor? Have or did you shoot it without the suppressor? Is it a rail mount? Otherwise pull the optic and start the mount/rings scope mounting from scratch (following directions and properly torqued). Will just have to use a process to eliminate each part of the accuracy equation. Including the barrel nut and possible crown damage.

ALWAYS need to make sure the trigger nut is operating within acceptable tolerance, and that they have not been dropped on their crown as a child. :D

You guys are fantastic. I just got home and grabbed the rifle and tried to twist the bbl and i’ll Just be darned if the bbl is loose. I can move / loosen the bbl just a bit. The nut moves with the bbl. thanks sooooo much!
Savage should be responsible for this since the rifle is 6 months old. I’m thinking I will need a go gauge and bbl nut to fix this? What should i do?

Join the club Mark. Took my new to me 6x45 out. Best groups of the day out of 2 rifles 8 loads. Twisted the eyepiece to make sure it wasn't loose and the scope turned!! Re leveled the scope, snug, great improvement.
Who expects a loose barrel?? Im glad you found it.
Check suppressor every 5 or 10 rounds or each magazine. I just check for good handy snug.
Re torque scope rings and mounts so YOU KNOW where they are.
Sharp people on here will give action screw advice.
Go gauge might be good to have for long term ownership.
Mine helps resolve and eliminate clearance suspicions.
Have confidence but verify.
Good luck!
Tom

nobody's fault but your own for not ensuring everything is tight and secure on a firearm before use.

I tear down every firearm from head to toe when I purchase them. New or used. Then I ensure everything is cleaned, lubricated and properly torqued before it ever sees the first round down the barrel by my hand.

a little TLC and continued regular maintenance will save you a lot of headache with wasted time and money

I own 6 Savages. Don’t own a bbl nut wrench. One would think a new rifle would have the bbl properly fastened to the action.
I’m thinking I will buy the gauges and wrench and do the work myself. I have a really large shop vise and could use it to secure the bbl.
would a bbl wrench off Amazon work? Made in China.

I would suggest sending it back to Savage. They could have an issue in their manufacturing process and you may be saving others from the same problem.

I agree with Hog here, or, at least make a very verbal statement to them and they could guide you on your next step. Personally, I would not go the route of fixing it yourself unless you dont mind a voided warranty. Anything you do from this point will be on you. Play the lay-up on this one and send it back. Hell ,they'll probably pay the shipping .

Send it back...you might even get a new barrel out of it. There could possibly be a threading issue.

Don’t ever “assume” anything. You know what they say about assumptions.

But you’re on the right track by wanting to get the proper tools and taking ownership of the situation. Best of luck.

++++ On sending it back!!!

Called “sal vege.” They said it is under warranty and they wanted to see it. So I shipped it via USPS. $19.99. 2 day. I have to pay for shipping to sal vege. Yes “Sal-vege.” They should pay for shipping. Said it would be 3 weeks. Not happy about shipping or turn around time.

Complete fail...

Can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink

That's crazy that a factory Savage barrel was loose. Normally they are on there pretty good. Does the nut turn only a little bit freely, or can you spin it freely several turns on the barrel? Just curious because there is normally some kind of thread locker on them from the factory.
