Smallest Viable Magnum Cartridge?

Just pondering the idea around, I've got a Magnum Action I thought about converting to 6.5 PRC, only now I'm thinking maybe something smaller?? Maybe 6mm or .250 on RM brass?

6.5 PRC would be the "Easy" button for sure.

If you like a bit more effort...

6.5 Rock / 6.5 Leopard (WSM based)

6-284 / 6-284 Shehane

6mm Arnold / Atlas (7 RemMag based)

Anything built off the 284 uses a standard 0.473" bolt face.

Your looking at the belted magnums. 300 Win, 7mm Rem, 350 Rem, 264 Win, the Weatherbys.
Then non belted WSM, SAUM, RUM, Dakota, RCM, 375 Ruger based cartridges (which includes the PRC).

How do you define a magnum or a magnum action?
I've got a 6MM Remington that is a 65,000PSI case and it's not a magnum. I also have a 358 Norma that's a 64,000PSI case and it is a magnum?

You could always do a 6mm-350 or 25-350.
Based on Remingtons 350 or 6.5 Rem Mag case.
I've formed some 6.5mm Rem Mag cases from 7mm Rem Mag.
I'd strongly recommend annealing the shoulder before you try to form from 7mm Rem Mag, your shortening the case length quite a bit.

The case head of the 224 Weatherby is smaller than the 30 06 butbits a magnum.
It's just my opinion but magnum is marketing. A Jeffery runs less pressure than a 223 Remington and much less than the 5.56 NATO.

Figure out how fast you want to go, with what caliber and forget magnum.

That's the problem with marketing. Doug Wesson named the 357 magnum after a champagne bottle.
To me I look at pressure ratings. The 243 is 60,000 PSI and the 6mm Remington is 65,000 PSI so the 6MM could be considered a magnum 6MM. It certainly produces higher velocities if you give it the barrel.

I had a .224 Wby a long time ago. It was a sweet rifle but I didn't have it that long. Back then I would get rid of them if I could make $20
