What .223 Bullet Would You Use?

Am loading for a .223 in 52-53 grain area for target use only. I have been using Nosler Custom Competition for the last year or two, with good results. Was wondering about other bullets though. Would use Berger but they don’t make a 52-53 grain boat tail, only a flat base. I am considering the Nosler of course, and also a Sierra Matchking and the Hornady ELD Match. Which one would you use, or do you prefer something else. I know each rifle is different, but am just thinking of possible moving on from the Nosler. Thanks.

What twist you shooting? The premium flat base bullets from custom makers in that weight range are what most will recommend here I bet if you are shooting a slow twist. BIB bullets come to mind:cool:

Sorry, knew I would leave something out. It is a total custom build with a 12 twist. I was just reading about flat vs boat tail bullets. I’m shooting out to 300, looks like a flat base might not be bad.

Barts Just my two cents Tommy Mc

Easy choice....Barts 52. This has been the light bullet of choice in every .22 caliber rifle I have owned the last 20 years.

what bullet is best ? You rifle will tell you what IT likes. You can try any number of bullets from custom makers or the major one's put out, but bottom line is a load and bullet that is the most accurate, consistently in YOUR rifle.

Hornady 50 grain vmax is what I run in 12 twist 223 barrels. One of those guns consistently 1/4 to half MOA. The other is 1/2 to 3/4 MOA. Driven by CFE223. The less accurate one is a short barreled full length stock carbine. The other is a varmint gun with a longer heavier barrel.

Oh, I agree, which is why I am doing testing with a 100 box. I also just ordered a box of Berger’s to try out. I will also try the Hornady and the Sierra, just to see, but was wondering what others used.
