Howa Mini Action

So, I have seen a lot of information about these, but have yet to see one in person. After searching around on line, I can't find the info I am really looking for... how big is the diameter of the action itself ? is it the same diameter as the other Howa actions, just shorter ? or is it smaller diameter like the Sako A1 or L461 ?
I've got three Howa mini actions. They are sooo good. I recommend them to anyone who will listen. I replaced the barrel, trigger, stock, bottom metal. Install talley lightweight rings. Brownells walnut stock piller bed. And true-oil Finnish.

Today is the first fire-forming test with my Howa mini action/ wildcat chamber. 30×33 kurz. I'm the only person that has one. It's an 8mm kurz cartridge necked to 30 caliber/17twist Krieger. Body straightened and shoulder increased to 25 degrees/ sharper shoulder. It is excellent.20200907_213534.jpg

This will definitely help the Howa Mini action. Jard is making some lightweight triggers specifically built for the Mini now.
Thinking I might have to try the 6-8 oz. unit...

Jard have no explanation as to why the mini rifle trigger is different to the standard Howa. Ill buy Timney.
As for stocks, I bought my mini with the greem plastic thing. Changed to an MDT. No improvement in accuracy. Ie, the original horror shot OK. Very stable and pillar bedded, sort of.

Next time round, 6 ARC, perhaps, Ill get the barreled action and eithe the Aussie Southern Cross or Oryx chassis

Are the barrel threads metric on the Howa Mini? Are the barrels difficult to remove?

Thanks,

Jon
Yes, metric. No harder to remove than any other. There was some talk a while ago about this, but I suspect rifles put away wet after a hunt etc.

About time that all rifles had metric screws- do you know how hard it is for us in civilised countries to find all your
odd bolts. And as for numbering drills, instead of putting the size on them, let alone sizing spanners by the head size, rather than the thread....

Just moaning for a friend.

Down at my local gunshop yesterday. Guys showed me a nice Tikka that had been bought back, cos the bolt operation was "sticky"

The owner had used Loctite on the scope bases, in large amounts. Gravity was them employed to distribte same through the action and trigger.

Pesky thing about gravity, always works!

That sounds really cool...got any pics of the rifle and cartridge?
Picture of my mini in 762×39/308 bore krieger with piller bedded boyd thumbhole stock. It's a dream!!! Next picture is my new 30×33 kurz with original plastic stock bedded. Haven't had time yet to get the walnut stock on it. This is my favorite gun/cartridge ever!! Only fireforming so far but it's incredible. Zero copper after the first 6 rounds. Wow!! Also Picture of cartridges 1= 8mm kurz virgin, 2= 30×33 kurz fireformed, 3= 762×39 cartridge. The kurz cartridge has a standard 308 boltface. My gunsmith had to open up my bolt a tiny bit. 20200908_164822.jpg 20200908_164325.jpg 20200908_164316.jpg

I have read of the 30Kurz in years past. One of the IHMSA guys campaigned it for a few years.

I can't believe others haven't picked up on it. Same case capacity as the (30 major) which has proven itself in competition. I think it's better because it is 308 boltface , easy neck down .015", and it's shorter and fatter as well. Only drawback is no Lapua brass. To solve that one would have to shorten the 30br cases, not that easy.

Went to range today to fire-form some more cases before starting real load development. I tried 5 different powder's just for curiosity. N120 vihtavory was incredible. Speed 2770+ and a 6 shot group that measures .370". Now that i have enough cases blown out i will switch to some good match bullet's.20200910_182019.jpg

The 527's are nice little rifles, I have one in 17 Hornet. I just don't care for the safety or the magazine arrangement.

Does anyone know if a single stage trigger/2 position safety from an older Howa 1500 or Weatherby Vangaurd can be swapped with the Howa Mini HACT trigger ?

i feel like there is a real market for Sako to bring back an A1 size action, or someone to start importing Mark X mini Mausers ( and parts !) again.
(Rifle basics) makes a great 1-lb varmint trigger. Brownells i think has them.
