OPENING MORNING DOVE SEASON

Limited out this morning 183, had a good shoot, John
Great shoot. Now you have my wheels turning. How many shots?
183 isn't a prime number, but the only divisors are 1, 3, and 61. My math isn't working for me?

By the way, your Alaska stories make me very envious, as does the dove shoot!!!

Most fun I’ve ever had years ago - before life got serious with job kid house payment. Now that all has settled down and you want to take your kid to experience the - can’t get shells in the shotgun fast enough with birds all over you - then you find there’s no more farmers and no more cutting going on so there’s no place to hunt and no one does it anymore. There’s housing developments where the fields were. Soak the breast in Italian dressing and cook on the grill days are behind me I’m afraid. Glad to see someone is still enjoying.

Looks like a great day. Love to see the kids getting involved. We stick a jalapeño in the breast, wrap it with bacon and do kabobs on the bbq. I love to open it up, eat the jalapeño and bacon. Toss the breast to the dog. I hate dove.

ain't nothing like a good shoot 4 in the afternoon when they comein 20 at a time..from 5 directions

Exactly what they do and I do exactly what you do! Doves and ducks! Any recipe that begins with; soak for 48hrs, slice meat thinly, add thick slices of pineapple, oranges, ect is not what I call food.. John

From the two 5 gal buckets of emptys that were picked up and the age and enthusiasm of some of the hunters I'm figuring about a10% kill ratio. I was using a 20ga 28in full choke and many of the birds were way to close for me, right off the bat two came in low and fast and I swung in my best 1990 style and while my body turned fairly well, my 75yr old legs didn't pick my feet up and I busted my ass. I shot 48rds and collected 15 birds. Not a very good showing! But we had fun.... John

Morning Dove are the most missed game birds of all.

Shooting doves is great fun! A trip to Argentina is on the bucket list.

Eating dove...meh. If dove meat was truly tasty, every recipe wouldn’t be a grand attempt to make dove not taste like dove.

Soak dove in salt water cold for twenty minutes. Pat dry wrap bacon grill low and slow. Serve with Uncle Bens wild rice and steamed broccoli.
Chew slowly (lead shot)

National average is 7 rounds per bird taken! I managed to average just over 50% this year, but didn't have the vast numbers of birds as years past, i suspect it was due to the fires going on here in CA.

oh my gosh I would LOVE to do that! Ive shot barn pigeons in the dead of CNY winter and that is a challenge, I know I would love dove hunting. Good photo! Jealous!!!!

Hmmm...I guess you've never been on a 'pass shoot' for woodcock.;) It is like shooting at a supersonic bat at twilight. Only last for about 15-30 minutes then you have to find those suckers in the dark.
