6.5x250 savage

You could do a 6.5-250 improved of sorts. The commercial version is quite popular, and components are everywhere.

There's a Win 70 match rifle on an auction site in this caliber . Just wondering if anyone has this caliber and if it would be possible to find a set of dies . Ballistics would have to be similar to some of the popular 6.5's .

Boots Obermeyer told me once that he was shooting a 6.5 based on the 22/250 case. He said mainly a 6.5XC. Shot 142gr bullets around 2700 or 2750 with the 9.1tw IIRC? Came up when I called and asked him if one of his barrels I found with 9.1 twist would work for a planned 6.5x47 shooting 123 category bullets. This was while he had his military .30 contracts and I had waited almost 3yrs for him to do me a 6.5. He used his for IIRC 600yd competition. So that sized case has been necked up for sure to 6.5 but don't know to what point his was altered capacity wise?

I have never understood why guys use a 6.5x.250 Sav when they could use a 6.5x.300 Sav with more capacity... And, better efficiency.

The 6.5 x.250 or .300 was called the "International". My issue was why in the HELL didn't they find Swede barrels that were twisted in 1-8.44" This was too difficult for the "minds that be" to understand. You need a tighter twist to stabilize long heavy bullets. Short light bullets ain't gonna cut it (even in 6.5mm), but they tried.

I believe the "International" was the 6mm/250, not 6.5. Had a reamer and die set for it but then the XC came about and I went that direction thankfully.

I like a 1-7.5 twist for most of my 6.5 rounds, but will settler for a 8 twist if need be. Shoots everything from 85-142 gr slugs into tiny little groups.

Were talkin' 1950's. The 6mm, 6.5mm and 7mm in a Savage case, either .250 or .300 (yes, they are different) were called "internationals" I got that out of one the first reloading books my dad had.

People often forgot to include the "rimmed" with the 7mm International Rimmed, as the other "Internationals" went by the wayside.

The .250 Savage case is a little shorter than the Creedmoor case with a shorter neck so essentially they're awfully close. Unless you just want the experience dealing with a wildcat it would be much cheaper and easier to go with a Creedmoor.
In the days before the creation of the Creedmoor it would have been a viable option but it never took hold. I think O'Connor wrote that Bliss Titus once worked with a .250 Savage necked up to .270.

You mentioned the auction...l got the wood one. Working on load data...used Powley. Think I can get 2500 and 2600 fps for 140 &130 gr. Did get 2700 with 120 s.

One of my first efforts was the .300 Savage necked down
to .270. It ended up going in a Rem 600 action. Nothing
special. Just another Pennsylvania 200 yard deer rifle.
