why benchrest shooters have there scope mounted so high?

It depends on the brand and style. I don't use high rings on any of my SR score rifles and my earmuffs don't touch the stock.

Right I think it depends on how your bench / seat is setup. It's whatever your comfortable with. I see guys behind, over, and beside there rifle. Some sit upright and some sit bent over there rifle. Different strokes lol

I'm new to benchrest and it seems everyone runs there scope super high off the barrel, why is that? and I'm looking for lower rings and I see Kebly's only offer's one very high option, so is there anyone out there offering a lower rings for the dovetail BR guns?
Thanks for asking this question. I’m pretty new too and the higher scope rings are a nuance that I had been missing.

Free recoil is very big in rimfire benchrest. The bullet is in the barrel much longer and anything that changes how the rifle recoils (cheek, shoulder. hand contact) can alter where the muzzle is pointed when the bullet exits.
