Questions on getting into Benchrest with .30BR

If you don't mind me asking, what other club is hosting score and group shoots in CT? Are they club level shoots or? Do tell...inquiring minds want to know. LOL!

"The local club I shoot at has a score class and a group class".

I made that sound way more interesting than it is. It is a local club that has a makeshift league in which guys with all kinds of centerfire rifles shoot something kinda like group and score.

Far from anything official other than bragging rights amount a dozen guys.

You better be careful and think this through, they're not gonna like you anymore when you show up with your 30BR. You might even get banned. LOL!!!

Yea but it’s going to be fun. Lol.

one of my local clubs some of the shooters got pissy at the 30cals winning all the time saying they make a bigger hole therefore easier to score higher so they voted in caliber specific targets. I thought it was funny

Yea, that is one of the things some of the "Elites" were discussing at the beginning of the 30BR. Just one of the attributes of .308 caliber I guess and nothing to get bent out of shape over. Dang, have one built and go join the crowd. Nothing wrong with building another rifle. LOL.

Depends on the target you guys shoot and how you determine winners.

A 30 BR might be a great answer. Or a 6 PPC (ish) cartridge might be a great answer.

Lots of good used rifles on here for sale.

PS: The problem with a small group like that is that they’ll find it easy to change the rules midstream to “keep things fun”. Been there. Had that happen.

PPS: A friend had this keep happening to him in a local drag racing venue. What he did was build the most mainstream car that he could find and put all of his time and money inside the car where it mattered most.

You might build a 6 BR on a factory action and put your money into a great barrel, great bedding, great bullets, a good trigger, and lots of practice.

Yea.. I can see that happening. I plan on joing a BenchRest centric club that is not to far from me that should "follow th rules".

I’d look at what format they shoot at the more formal club. If they are shooting IBS Score, a 13.5 lb 30 BR will be a winner. If, OTOH, they shoot group, a 10.5 lb LV/Sporter in 6 PPC will be a winner. UBR? Either due to the caliber-neutral scoring. But, then, why put up with the extra recoil of the 30?
