30 nosler

I have started working up a load for a 30 nosler.
Retumbo
Berger 215
Federal match magnum primer
Nosler brass

started very low and found the best node at 85.5 grains seated about .015” off the lands. First 4 shot group was .74” at 100 yards and the 2nd group of 4 was .8” at 100. Shot both of these on days where the temp was 92-98 degrees. I have a slight ejector mark on my brass. I would still like to fine tune this load to see if it will tighten up some more. What do you guys think? I’ve shot 86 grains and started getting a sticky bolt lift. I haven’t found any of the lower grains to show anything promising. Not the best picture

Also should I try h1000? I tried them with the hornady a-tip 230 as well with retumbo before I switched to the 215 berger.

I agree on the RL-33 however I am trying to only use temperature stable powders since I live in Texas but hunt the Midwest throughout the year

I have seen 33 be very stable. In fact better than H1000 as I was running them side by side over many days. You have to test stability in your cartridge, advertising is just that. The best shooting 30 Nosler I know of is shooting IMR 7828 with a 215 Berger. H1000 is another very good choice.

That’s good to know. I called Alliant and they were giving me numbers from 1-2fps for every degree. Been a little difficult to try a load over different temps since it’s been 99-104 degrees every day.

It's not a real hot load but my 30 Nosler loves 80gr of H-1000 with Berger 215s shoots in the upper 0.2"s. Getting 2997 from 27.5" Bartlein. Neck sized Nosler brass F215m primers 3.565" OAL

What I see for most powders that are considered sensitive is that they will spike in hot weather. But are generally very good in the colder weather. I would worry more about finding the most accurate load and then learn what it takes to keep it in tune. No matter what powder you choose you will have to tweak the load to keep it in tune constantly anyhow, thats just how it goes.

How about shooting good brass ?

Nosler brass I know isn’t the best but I was thinking it was decent for sure?
I have no problems with the nosler brass. If you buy the prepped and sorted ones in the box they are very nice. The bagged ones are like any other brass- dings etc. since nosler started making their own brass and got away from using norma its real good for hunting rifle type needs.

That’s good to know about the brass. VV 570 is out of stock every place I have seen online and called. Same with reloader 33. I did find 7828ssc and I’m going to try it. May try h1000 as well. It’s a little difficult this time of the year to work up a load and keep the barrel cool.

Midway has N570 in stock right now
