What method do you use to level a scope?

What do you do to level scopes? I have the wheeler two level system and I hate it.

I level.my rifle in the rest and hang a string with a weight on the end beside my 100 yd target true the vertical cross hair with the string.... John

I look through the scope. If it looks plumb with the world, I tighten it up. If the scope appears to be canted, I straighten it before tightening WH.

I level the rifle and then level the scope erector/turret. I want my turret to travel vertical with the rifle. Reticles are often not level with the scope erector.

yep...best rest is that "v" between the mirror and doorpost---sometimes get lucky and elbow rests perfectly on bottom of steering wheel...if i can get my truck stopped there in that perfect spot, a coyote is gonna have a bad day

I level my front rest, then level the scope.

made this little fixture, works well, put a bubble level on the plate, mount the scope to the rail, level the plate with the screws, sight the scope on a plumb line, rotate it till the reticle is in line with the plumb line, tighten the rings, done

Anyone have a set up for rimfire chamberbers such as 17’s - I got centerfire stuff but rarely will it fit into rimfire chamber - not trying to hijack thread but would like to know

Being a retired electrician, I own a digital level that reads in 1/10 degrees. I level my barrel in a modified woodworking vise. I then level the rail, check across the bottom ring then across the turret. I keep checking as I tighten the ring screws. This seems to produce a better result for me than the plumb bob method. It’s just another option.

then verify at range

Eye ball it, theres no reason a scope has to be level to the rifle. It's turret assembly should be on the same plane as gravity but theres no reason it needs to be level to the rifle.

How do those off the rifle fixtures work if the receiver holes are drilled off center?

For my applications I believe the fixture makes it easy for me to set up, all my receivers have the rails machined into them as one piece. So I make sure the bottom of the scope is parallel to the one piece mount and then mount it to the rail on the receiver

I do have a question, how do you mount a rail so you know it is running parallel to the center line of the bore if you screw it on

Couple V-blocks and an edge finder with the appropriate measurements and calculations, one way, dial indicators are another.
