Action levelling

Could anyone tell me how to level the action on a Remington before levelling the 'scope? That is which part of the action do you put the level on? There does not seem to be a "flat" that can be used.
Jim.

REMOVE YOUR BOLT THEN TAKE A PIECE OF FLAT STOCK STEEL OR ALUMINUM ABOUT 3/4 IN WIDE 1/8 IN OR SO THICK AND ABOUT 10 IN LONG AND SLIDE IT IN THE ACTION AND LEAVE SOME STICKING OUT PAST THE END OF THE ACTION AND SET A SMALL LEVEL ON TOP OF THE FLAT STOCK YOU MIGHT HAVE TO HOLD THE FLAT STOCK DOWN IT DEPENDS ON HOW HEAVEY YOUR LEVEL IS.

I usually put a small level across the scope rings with the gun held loosley in the vise. I slowly tighten and adjust so that when the vise is holding the gun securely, the bubble is in the center of the level. I put the scope in the rings and put a bubble on the adjustment cap and slowly tighten the screws while watching the level. Works pretty good for me. Almost forgot, I do this after I have lapped the rings.
