Recessed bolt head on single shot

Just wondering if a recessed bolt head (Rem 700 style) would feed .223 rounds in a single shot action. Or can it be made to feed. The barrel would need to be recessed a little over .700" x about .150"deep. I understand this type of bolt head is more suited to a mag feed but since I have it I'm hoping I could use it.
Thanks in advance.

Rem 40XBR are single shot actions that have done it since day 1. Bolt is standard 700 style. There is a loading ramp machined in the floor of the action to tip up the cartridges so the bullet hits the chamber hole on bolt closure.

That's the best part.:cool: Sure wish Savage had that so I could shoot my 20 TCM without issues.:(

Not sure I want to machine a ramp in my action as it will be a switch barrel action but I'm hoping something could be done with the bottom of the barrel to lead the bullet into the chamber

All you need is a single shot follower. Thats what its designed to do. It makes it just like a single shot remington
Not sure how a single shot follower is going to fit into a single shot action??
just wondering if i just should get a coned bolt so the cone lead into the chamber will help feed the .223.

Thats true- thought for some reason we were making a single shot. The follower makes it the same as what you already have which feeds like butter

Sorry but my original post.....Just wondering if a recessed bolt head (Rem 700 style) would feed .223 rounds in a single shot action.(not repeater)

What action? is it a Remington/clone or are you trying to bastardize another brand.

Defiance Machine which is Rem clone and not trying to bastardize it, just wanting to know if a recessed bolt would work in a single shot action with .223 ammo as a Smith said probably not because a coned bolt would be better. If it won't work well I buy a coned bolt and have a spare recessed one. simple. The bolt I have is a Defiance bolt.

Thank you all it's sold and buying a coned bolt
That’s probably a good idea - a rem 700 in 223 I just bought doesn’t seem to want to feed no matter if I just lay one in the action and try to close the bolt or if I try it from mag box. Mabie that’s why it was on sale.
