View attachment 1193719 These primers are Federal GMM Large Rifle primers that came from 1 box. Why are some of the anvils red and some brass colored. Does this make any difference?
The thing is, you don't know if there's a little more to their statement. I.e., ".. that you'd ever notice"I called Federal and asked the same thing and was told they did extensive studies on that and it has no affect on performance whatsoever!
These primers are probably that old anyway- mabie from the same time period.Happened to me maybe 10 years back now. They said that they'd come off different lines. I said that's the last time I use Federal.
Only if you're trying to "color coordinate" your ammo.Does this make any difference?
I wonder why they needed to extensive test when they could just change their process a little so it didn’t happen. Sounds like the extensive test really wasn’t that extensive,I called Federal and asked the same thing and was told they did extensive studies on that and it has no affect on performance whatsoever!
It’s only different on the inside- but everyone will know cause it happened to themOnly if you're trying to "color coordinate" your ammo.Once fired, they'll all turn black anyway. And black primers matter.

I don’t think I’ll be using these if it’s really important.Looks like the sealant was applied (sprayed) before vs after seating the anvil in the cup, or oversprayed.
It shouldn't make a difference. . . but if I had a dime for every time someone told me "nothing changed" and I proved that something had, I'd be a rich man.

We hope anyhowI think the point is... they're Gold Metal Match primers. We pay the premium for consistency.
I know you shouldn't have to, however, if you have the time and the inclination, maybe sort 5 - 10 of each and compare MV.
I just counted and have around 500 of these and will probably do what you suggest before long ThanksI know you shouldn't have to, however, if you have the time and the inclination, maybe sort 5 - 10 of each and compare MV.
Recently used some Federal Gold metal match small rifle primers with a load I knew to be very accurate . I was surprised to find that was not the case with the Federal primers ! The groups were all over the place even though everything else was the same. Going back to CCI BR-4
