I purchased 4 boxes of 6.5x47 Lapua brass about 4 years ago for a new rifle. I opened the last new blue box and started checking it a week ago. I ran them thru my normal "new brass" process:
F/L size non bushing die, no decapper
Run the over a .2625 mandrel
Checked concentricity- really bad .003 to .010 ugh
Checked neck wall thickness- variations were .001 to .003 ugh
Next I squared up the primer pockets. This is were I noticed the really bad problem.....the pockets were really loose.
I checked them with a gauge to confirm. I tried seating a few primers. They will hold a primer, but i can tap them on the bench and they fall out. So this brass is unusable.
I ordered another new box and checked these. They have the normal Lapua quality and consistency.
Just a bad batch I guess. All in all I got useable 40 pieces out of the 100.
Has anybody else seen Lapua brass this bad?
