Shot 1000 yards for the first time today

I came to the Whittington center here in Raton last year and shot my NM AR at 600 yards. I wanted to try 1000 yards this year, so I built a Palma style rifle on a 40x action last fall, and had only recently shot it at 100 yards back home. I got my calculations set based off some apps and measurements I took, then I let fly this afternoon.
Since I was the only one there I had to shoot a string then drive down to the target to paste my holes.
My first measurements were just about right on. I adjusted for my POI up 17 inches, and tried again. The second string of 20 and I shot a 170-1x. Not great, but I’ll take it. My first group was tighter but low, and when I was putting my rifle away I noticed that my rear iris was loosened. I tightened it up and will try again tomorrow morning. I think I can do better.4FF279A3-AE68-4E90-809F-60E5D505C9B8.jpegDC897ECF-C4B9-4132-BBD4-EFEE722DDBA1.jpeg8F2DA598-51C9-4C42-8E97-5D8330FCB52E.jpeg

I chased a loose front sight in a High Power match once. Finally I could hear my former coach say If you have a large, round group, knowing you had some called good shots, check for a loose sight." o_O:oops::cool:

Yep. I thought I heard something about a gravitational anomaly in New Mexico today. Glad you had a good time. Palma shooting is great!

Keep shooting! It's a mind game! The rifle doesn't know if it's shooting 100 yards...or 1500; only you do!!

Nice shooting, wish I could see that with open sights. Whittington is a great place to shoot. For my first visit we stayed at the cabins and shot before an elk hunt last Dec, and going back to shoot again this year with a buddy who is hunting. Had the range to ourselves! Good luck.

Last time I was out there was 2017. Had a great two weeks! The 1000 yd. range was shut off half the time due to events, but when I shot, it was all by myself.:) Dinged the buffalo a bunch and knocked down a ton of silhouettes. A writer friend of my wife's came up and learned how to shoot guns. Got her on a .22 and once she was confident, we shot 150 rounds of .38 Special. After that we emptied a bunch of .40 and .45 magazines. She came away that day not having the issues she feared about shooting.

Finally, the collar and leash got snapped on, and I had to go east...:(

Added: I forgot, she also shot a .22 rifle and an AR:)

be vigilant about that 1000y berm. I've had turkeys, deer, and even a black bear walk across the line. (in the middle of a match no less) the wildlife could care less about gunfire.

I was shooting over the top of Pronghorns on the 800 yard line.

I don’t know why it does that or how to fix it. I am doing this all from my phone. I hit upload a file and choose the photo and when it shows up it’s either sideways or upside down.
