does this crown have a problem?

i was expecting a more symmetric fouling pattern....

WIN_20200708_16_07_35_Pro.jpg rifle occasionally acts erratic... and shoots different bullets to different horizontal points of impact. heavies impact 4 moa right and 2 moa up from lights.... and most groups show horizontal stringing....

It looks to me, that with the uneven pattern and the inside edge showing the uneven markings and debris sticking there, it seems like yes. I would have a smith take a cut and re-crown it.

well, 3 votes to none, so i figured i have nothing to lose.... here is <5 minutes with a brass screw and fine valve grinding compound....

i shall report back tomorrow evening... i'll retest before pulling the barrel...

Kind of looks different than the standard Savage RR track looking groves. You should get someone to cut it off and put a fresh crown on it and then you will know.

I would also check the other end of your barrel...
Maybe it’s time for new barrel.

Not so fast. less money to try a new crown, with some barrel cut off and re-crowned, then shoot for grouping, etc. then if it does not improve and get the job done, then a new barrel might be considered.

It’s been beat to death with cleaning rod reversal or because it’s been put barrel down into floorboard of vehicle!

How do you know this? Cause those are the things that ruin a crown most frequently.
That make sense now that ya mention it , I knew a guy that never got out of the truck...maybe that's why he was such a bad shot, bad crown ?
